Everybody Stand Back

Just got home, 2 big boxes on the porch. The V5 and my gauges. No trailers in sight, started looking around. Boat trailer had run up the pine tree like a cat, and was whimpering. Equipment trailer had run into the shed and slammed the door, gouged up the yard with the trailer jack.

I can't wait to hook up the V5 tomorrow, this is gonna be awesome. My buddies had better step aside with their powerstrokes, I'm not gonna say anything about the V5, just surprise them good. This is better than Christmas. I may just have to rig up some lights and hook it up tonight, I can't stand it. The truck is about to get its first actual power mod!

Well this is just freaking great. I can't even figure out how to unplug the MAP sensor. Mechanical genius I am not. The map sensor I believe is the one that actually shares a bracket with the oil dipstick tube?
I'm supposed to be making dinner, I've been running back and forth stirring the pot and fiddling with the sensor. Arrrgh! Is there a trick to it? My luck I'm gonna break something.

They can be tough! Pull out the red locking tab and then squeeze the disconnect on the connector. Mess with one of the connectors that you can see by your fuse box and you will see what you have to do. The map sensor on a 02 is toward the back of the motor right of the filter housing. I believe they are in the same place on a 99.

I don't have any pictures, but the MAP Sensor is just below that bracket. It doesn't actually make any contact with the dipstick tube though.

The sensor is one of those clip jobbers. You have to pull up or down depending on the orientation of the locking tab. It's not that tough to get. Just be careful not to snap it.

Oh, found a picture over at TST ------> MAP Sensor Location.... scroll down to figure 10a and you will see it. Figure 10b also shows it disconnected, but from a bad angle.

Let us know how you shake out!

No luck. The thing will not unplug. It has one little gray plastic christmas tree thing holding it onto the bracket, which is about to break. No red clip anywhere, like I see on some other connections. I can only get one hand on it, so can't really pull. Lucky, I'd strangle it if I could get both in there. Congrats to the genius engineer who designed the clip and the location. Have a load of 000 for him. Something's gonna break if I keep pulling on it, don't know how to get it to unclip.

Right where it says in the directions, Simple 5 minute installation, they should say something like
Step one: Drop a small slege hammer on your foot, to put you in the correct mindset.
Step two: Just go ahead and chew the end right off your flashlight, will save you some time cause it will be chewed off before you get the Map/Mad sensor undone.
Step 3: Rip off a couple miscellaneous small vacume lines, cause they will be in your way.
Step 4: Mash the heck out of all radiators and intercoolers with your knees, the more silver you see the better.

Bonus Contest: Submit your most creative homemade cussing combinations that you invent while talking to the map sensor.

I'll fool with it more tomorrow, I'm gonna end up breaking something tonight.

Too bad your a shore billy, if you were over here on the Western shore i'd more than happy to help.
look at the pics on the obove link, find the map sensor, grab it with your right hand and with your index finger find the little clip pull up easily with your finger and pull the plug with your hand and bingo off she comes.
good luck and put that hammer down.

I believe the map sensor plugs into your block, at least it does on mine, which is an 01. May be different for your year. It is on the drivers side in the back and is plugged into the block. There is a male to female connector i believe and your box that you got connects between the two. The end of the cable on the box that you got i think is Y and you plug one side into the block and the other side into the cable that was origianly plugged into the block. The connectors will only fit one way only. Hope this helps

I finally got the map sensor off. It was pretty easy after I figured out which way to pull and what to squeeze. Unfortunately none of the clips or adapters for the va are even close to being similar. The directions with this thing SUCK. I need a picture or something. Someone else mentioned it didn't fit their truck either. What a let down, I'm pretty disappointed. The diagnostic connector just has a picture of the engine with an arrow that says injection pump under manifold. Narrows it right down for me, I reckon. Nothing under there looks anything like the cables I've got either. Might be sendin this SOB back where it came from tomorrow. This sucks. Hey Scotte, you western shore yankee, I might have to drive to Kingsville and get you to help me connect this thing!

I think that the clips for 98.5 to i think a 2000 are all the same, then the 01 and 02 are different. What year truck does the box say it is for?

you're going to love the v5 it makes it a whole new truck. But on your map questions, The VA should have came with three connectors, yours will have the triangular one??? I know my 01 has a three prong thing going on...but still...I had a hard time locating the MAP too I was on a lawn chair in the front lawn trying to do it, BTw, if yours doesnt have the correct adapter I know mine does and i could gladly mail it to you if you cant find the right fit!

I recently installed mine and have the same truck. My V5 came with three adapters and I needed all three. There are two for the MAP sensor and one for the diagnostic port. The diagnostic port is a Edit to find. It's on the front of the engine, driver's side, below the injection pump, wrapped up in the wiring harness. It is grey and is triangular in shape ... don't forget to take the blanking plug out. I can send pics if you need them.

Thanks for all the help yall. I dreamed about map sensors all night. Well, on my last round with this thing last night I think I found the real map sensor. Plugged into the block like you said CTD2001. Got it hooked up this morning, finally.
As for the diagnostic port, there are several possibilities on which one it is, there is a big 1" by 2" black square plug, with ears on it that you pull with 2 fingers and it slides back and unlocks. The plug on the end doesn't look like what I'm looking for though. This is right beside the injector pump. What does a blanking plug do, and is it actually hooked to the engine or just hanging? This one is tough to find.

My intercooler took a beating last night while I was kneeling on the bumper. And I chewed a lot of the camo finish off my browning flashlight with my teeth. Ouch.
Oh, the va says its for a 1998. My truck is a 99, don't know if that makes a difference.
Yeah, Piperca, pics would be great. Thanks. I do a lot better with pictures on a project like this!

Heh, heh, welcome to the world of late night bombing. Don't get discouraged it'll be worth it. When I installed my ez it to me 45 minutes to get the map plug off and that was with my wife helping with one of her darning needles!! It indexed upside down and I couldn't get my hand on it. The diagnostic plug on mine was tucked behind and underneath the filter to the right of the injection pump. The blanking plug looks like a small cap on the end. Another one hand deal. A little patience and you'll get it and you are gonna be really happy with the way it wakes up your truck. Better mileage too once you stop playing.
