Evacuating Crankcase Pressure

I really need some help. Since adding my twins my blowby has been a little excessive. Is there a way to install another crankcase vent or is there a better way to use the vent and bottle I already have? I've heard that dragsters use vaccum pumps in many cases. I'm running 60 to 65lbs of boost.

Thanks,

Meacham Evins

I'm running a modified oil cap to vent excess pressure. Basically I took the cap (as instructed) mounted an elbow to the top and ran a hose to the ground. I'll be the first to tell you that it's not my idea, I got the idea from Idaho CTD. I would also caution you because I've heard the pushrod cover gasket can blow awfully easy.

I saw in Drawson's photos that he mounted a vent into the exhaust down pipe. I guess depending on the pipe placement it may suck some of the fumes out with the flow of exhaust. ???

It looked like the vent tube protruded into the exhaust about 1 inch for some venturi action I would guess.

You can mount what ever breathers you want on the valve cover, another member put one on top, used an older Mopar breather and rubber mount. My engine has the breather on the pushrod cover, I could always add another on the front cover if I wanted.

Venting the blowby into the exhaust is a great way to get rid of it but you must use a check valve as there are times when the exhaust back pressure can exceed the blowby pressure.
PCV valve in a gasser provides much the same function.

That is what that assembly was then.. I saw a valve type thing on the tube, but wasn't sure that it was a check valve.. Makes sense.

So why does DC continue to use the blowby tube? I hate the blowby tube, I have no bottle, oil always on front suspension. If I put a breather in the valve cover, will the blowby tube be clean all the time?

No it'll just come out in another place.

PCV on a gasser goes back into the intake, but that probably wouldn't work so hot with 60 lbs of boost sitting there.

Older diesel VW Rabbits routed the blowby back inside the air cleaner.
What a mess and a perfect recipe for a runaway engine...
