thanks again for the link to the Esbar site. I took that & called the dealer we use for that stuff here at work, they recommended the Webasto Blue heat series-

Heres the catch. It is only available installed by them (Eskimo Refridgeration here in Calgary). They cannot sell it over the counter. The cost includes installation. The best thing about it is that it ties into your blower motor & forces warm air into the cabin....not just into the glycol circuit.
Too bad they want $2495 + tax....

guess that ends my plans....too much cake for only a couple months a year.

Im telling you look at e-bay or drive down south and pick one up. They are not really that hard to install.

Rocky mountain diesel in Montana sells the kit for $1833 plus taxes.

still gonna cost me about 2400 to get it installed. Webasto will not sell these things to individuals-must be dealer installed.

ok...I tried....lol

You might also want to check out Freightliner and other big truck places.

Cummins has ESPARS, and with a $25 Power Booster Membership you get 10% off.

Cummins is actually more expensive than at the Dodge dealership. They are not hard to install at all. The worst part is the wiring. If you get a service manual to get the proper wire colours, its a snap.

D5 is bigger - more BTU's. I dont think they actually sell the D4 any more.

Had a chat over beers with our cummins rep for my work. He said he could get me a screamin deal on an Espar. I'll give him a ring tomorrow & I guess we'll see.

He said that this kit they have made up comes with the bracket to bolt right to the frame (between the fuel tank & transfer case) He also said something about a wiring kit/option that will hook into the OEM harness & power up the blower fan when the system is up to temperature. the same thing as a webasto blue heat but you don't need to have it installed by a certified dealer.
I'll post when I find out the cummins price.......

I'm, running the D5, works good, course its new,but have a question,it sez in the instructions to hook the grey wire, which is no 1 in the shematics to make the lite come on in the 7 day timer, to the dash lites or switch, same thing and it will dim with the dash lite dimmer,I hooked it to the + wire and it did turn on with the dash lites but it wouldnt dim when i dimmed the dash lites,(dash lites do dim),I disconnected from the + and grounded the grey wire but the lite didnt come on. any suggestions.

Thanks for the info about the TLS 17.

Does anyone know, other than manufacturer, the difference between a D5 from Espar & a TLS-17? The seem to spit out the approx same BTU, are comperable in size & ability......is it maybe their reliability?

I would imagine they are about the same. They're actually quite simple, just a fan, two pumps (one fuel, one water), an igniter, and a control circuit.

I'm planning to hook the Webasto up to an independent timer, due to the cost of the Webasto timer (and flexibility of other timers).

I just got off the horn with a dealer of the 2 & they said there was no real differnce in the end. The espar flow'd about twice as much coolant as the Webasto & during low heat mode, drew less amps. Other than that, the BTU's, mounting, size & functionality were pretty much the same.

The TSL-17 is the base model & most prices do not come with a controller. These controllers cost in the range of 200-500dollars. Then ya need to mess around installing one. I'm going to get a special Dodge kit'd espar D5.....price is right.....well, better than anywhere else I've looked.

You wont regret it - and dont worry about the reliability - these things are made to last. Thats why they cost so much $.
