Exclamation Engine Swap

Hey Guys
Anyone out there know what you need to do if possible to swap out the engine on my 1998 Dodge Diesel 2500 4X4 looking to put a 2005 Cummins in place of the original engine. Any help or Direction as to who to contact will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

All i can think of is a ton of computer related issues. Other than exhaust, fuel lines, and all the necessary little stuff. By the time you buy a motor and make it work you could sell yours and buy one with the motor you want.

Talking Good Luck

Good Luck With That,, Let us Know how you make out..

I just did an Engine swap from a 1998.5 to a 2001
I cant Imagine doing that with a 2005 engine,,, Will The 1998 bell housing fit? Computers will not work,

I agree with the other post ,, It would be cheaper to sell your truck and by the one you want..

Good Luck,, Keep us posted on your progress.

Yeah you can do it. Is it a 12v or 24v replacement motor? Why are you replacing the 05CR motor? Too quite right? Not enough power?

I read it wrong, I thought that he wanted to pull his 05 cr motor out. Honestly its a big job and require lots of putting around to get it to work right. You would be a cummins expert once your done with your project. I saw a complete CR motor new on Ebay. Thats the ticket or get 05 truck and go at rip/tear the peices that you need. I would install the 12v motor over the CR motor, but thats easy route. If you have an auto, keep your PCM as your tranny requires it or just go the old style valve body (non-electronic). The next issue would be your tach as I have no idea what the CR motor uses for a tach signal but I'm sure it could be worked out.

If you don't have the wiring harness.. you could look at getting one for a gen set.. or a stand alone engine... This might be easier than splicing the truck harness.. but the ECM's will probably be different.. and power upgrades might not work... The stand alone engine will probably just need input for throttle.. (work best for manual tranny) Not sure how the CAN insturments would work.. Most of the stand alone engine have a gauge package that just plugs in the the CAN and displays the info.. but manual gauges could easily be added.. and you fractory could be used by remounting the sensor.. If you just hung the old ECM on the fire wall you could use your factory gauges.. (Like most are doing when doing a P-Pump conversion.. )

How about swapping new 6.7liter in 2 gen ram?

My truck is coming from Florida. I havent seen it. I see it when it is in Finland docks. I really, really afraid that it is a #53 blocker. It is 98,5 24valve....

Try fordcummins conversions.com I almost bought one of their 05 engines for my 92, then had a weak moment and bought a new 05 truck. The people there were very helpful and answered alot of questions. Should be pretty straight forward. All of their engines come witha computer and wiring harness
