electronic engine performance

Regarding a 2002 - 24 Valve Turbo Cummins- With all the different companies offering "plug in" electronic performance products is there any one products that stands out for simplicity, reliability and effectiveness. Any recommendations if I am looking for a mild to moderate performance increase without having to change the stock exhaust etcc.. Simple installation a plus. Thanks.

Re:electronic engine performance

Here is a link to a very in depth article that Jack wrote about the Edge EZ. That would be my first choice for a mild to moderate gain. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...eez/edge.shtml

Re:electronic engine performance

There are currently three manufacturers of plug in timing boxes.

Van Aaken
PDQ
Edge

They all do basicly the same thing....add a little fuel and play with the injection timing.

the 65HP, and 150FTxLBF gain they all claim is a little missleading.

Peak HP gain for timing boxes is between 20-30 HP at 2700 RPM depending on the truck and other bombs that are on the truck.

The 65HP and 150 FTxLBF gain they claim is lower in the RPM range..typicaly between 1800 and 2000 RPM.

Re:electronic engine performance

Get the Edge COMP and don't hook up the pump wire. It acts just like an EZ and if you want to upgrade later on down the road, all you have to do is hook up the pump wire. It plugs in the same way as an EZ.

Re:electronic engine performance

Thanks to everyone for the prompt reply. The Edge products seem to be the unanimous choice. Your advise is appreciated. A few other questions.
1. What is your feeling on the D-Box by Superchips.com?
2. With these "stage one" performance products is it nessesary to install gauges? (EGT, Boost, Tranny Temp.)
3. My 2002 is auto, will the stock tranny hold up?

I have read the article by Jack and he recommends the gauges and tranny upgrades........any further thoughts if one was to stick with the Edge EZ.

D box is an Edge Box marketed by superchips.
No, it is not necessary to install gauges with just an EZ.

Your 2002 stock tranny should hold just an EZ.
But, I would advise atleast a valve body upgrade to get more power to the ground and saving the internals.

Looks like you are on your way to more power!

Check out these guys....www.atsdiesel.com

--Justin

Re:electronic engine performance

Another reliable upgrade is the Diablo Power Puck I still have 3 in service since 99 on various trucks with no tranny mods, or gauges and no problems. It produces the same power as the EZ.
