High pressure high temperature engine exhaust or high pressure air same difference. Serves as motive energy to drive the turbine.

Maybe we need to think more outside the box for something really exoctic (and stupid ). How about a blast of steam to get the thing spooling. With a flash boiler in the bed of the truck, the spool would be limitless.

Has anyone tried to make an extended shaft that extends through the intake tube with some sort of a seal and is connected to a high speed electric motor with a one way engaging clutch so that it will spin the turbo up to a certain maintainable speed and then be eliminated/disconnected via the mini clutch once exhaust flow spins the turbo at a higher speed that the electric motor. This would give instant spool up but will not net any higher boost numbers.

That sounds exactly what you were saying before except for just putting in the intake tube.
1) You wouldn't be putting compressed air in the turbo
2) You wouldn't be able to find a fan little enough to put in the intake tube that will flow anywhere near the amount of air you would need.
3) Lastly, you are just putting a restriction in the tube when its not engaged.

I guess you are not understanding my description. I am trying to describe an external power source to the turbo by manually turning to shaft that connects/transfers power from exhaust turbine to compressor wheel. Say you removed the nut on the pinwheel and added a 1' rod with female connector to match up to the pinwheel shaft, extend through the intake and out into the engine compartment to an external electric powered motor that could turn the whole assembly at a reasonable speed until exhaust flow turns the turbine and shaft assembly and pinwheel "compressor blades" and extra 1' foot shaft at a higher speed than the electric motor. Once higher speed is reached, one way clutch would disengage and electic motor would no longer be attached to the turbo shaft assembly.

Man, NO, you would throw the balance of the shaft all off and that turbo would trash faster than you can think.

Also, do you realize how many RPM these turbos turn??? You couldn't get an electric motor to turn ANYWHERE NEAR fast enough!!

The machining that would go into the parts to be able to balance out at 200,000rpm would cost a ton not to mention be difficult to find a shop competent enough to hold the tolerances to keep that extra shaft in balance. Don't also forget that that extra shaft is gonna have a lot of whip to it at those kinda speeds and that whip is going to destroy the turbo probably as soon as you start the truck. Not to mention that the electric motor needed to spin those kinda rpm's would be huge and expensive. Trust me buddy, there's a reason nobody's done this before. For the minimal gain in spoolup you'd receive it wouldn't outweigh the consequences nor cost of rigging a setup like that. Piers actually mounted a supercharger on top of the turbo (it was a belt driven roots) and they were making 20psi at idle and had no lag but it was costly and an engineering nightmare to get it to work right. I hate to burst your bubble bud but this just won't work.

It looks like my idea of running nitro methane mix was by far the best power adder, spoolup assister ever thought of. Now I just need a patent and I can call my additive "GO JUICE" !!! Ha Ha Ha

Hot D*m, it looks like someone invented a supercharged cummins. And you all laughed at my idea. Diesel Power, July pg. 66.

I can't wait for someone to report some numbers and spool characteristics of a supercharger feeding twin turbos.

Now I am dreaming of a cummins with a semi automatic shifter so auto guys can have full control of the shift patterns.

Just get an E4OD with a computer that you can propram the shift points so it stays in the power range the whole time. Just an idea i have heard it done and they said that you could not even tell the truck was shifting because it kept in an rpm range the whole time. Close to max torque and hp
