hey guys im just curious about running electric cooling fans instead of the clutch style, i figure it would help net a couple more hp what do you guys think. also does anyone know how many cfms a stock clutch style fan pulls?? thanks

I thought I read some where on here that past a certain point the electric fans can't do the job by them selves. I'll try to find it if I can. I haven't seen any "kits" for the CTD, but I know flex-a-lite makes fans for the duracrap and powerjoke.

 

well i was looking at flex a lites site and they actually do make a duall fan kit now, it pulls 5500 cfm max, i was looking at putting two 3000cfm fans on my truck, which would be a total of 6000cfm, i dont tow so i might try it but more opinions and info would help

Unless you're doing something that requires every last bit of power(pulling, racing), it won't be worth the expense. The stock clutch fan is basically just coasting much of the time, not draining power, and will outflow any electric fan when locked up. I'd spend my money on something else. HTH

 

The cost/benefit of something like this isn't necessarily going to be favorable.

That said, it WILL help the truck warm up a lot faster in cold weather. Those of us who've lived in the North and removed the fan for the wintertime can tell you that.

The problem is that the OEM clutch never fully freewheels and never fully locks up. It's the worst of both worlds. It sucks fuel when you don't need any cooling, and when you need SERIOUS cooling, it slips.

Why, oh why did Horton have to hang us out to dry?

Unless you place a huge value on warm up time and the 10-15hp it might give you, and electric fan setup isn't very cost effective.

 

Where are people buying these from?? Summit is like $549, anyone have em cheaper??
