Electric fan?

Electric fan?
Please don't shoot me... newbie here

Just curious if anyone has thought of or has converted to an electric fan?

Main reason I ask is that the stock fan is kinda loud and to me annoying. Also it might free up a tad bit of hp and maybe a very slight mpg increase.

Anyone?

BANG

I couldn't resist that. I seriously doubt that an electric fan could move the volumes of air required. The computer only connects the viscous fan clutch when required. If the fan is roaring constantly, you may have a problem. Have the dealer check it out.

Casey

Re:Electric fan?
I ve thought about this idea.....and hmmmm.....
I d bet that four electrics could atleast run with the mechanical fan cfm wise.....maybe run two all the time and the other two on a temp switch at say 190 or 200....Probably free up 30 hp.
One thing I noticed is that my 98 has a steel fan and my buddies 03 has a larger plastic fan, but it must only be about 1 to 2 iches bigger and looks like it would fit in my 98 shroud.
Lighter (plastic) is better right?

Re:Electric fan?
If I remember correctly, the current Truck of the Month utilizes electric fans in place of the belt driven one..

Check out that thread, the one that lists the modifications, I think he lists what fan(s) he uses.
If not, PM him for info.

phox

8)
The fan on my truck is working just fine.... just alittle curious if anyone has attempted this and if the results were worth while.

I own another car thats more or less a drag car (streetable) that I have tried to get every bit of HP out of through little things like this.

I might look into it in the future but today I purchase an exhaust system so mod (or bomb as you guys call it) money is bankrupt for the next month or two

Being a dragstrip junkie for 8 years makes it hard to leave anything stock.... always wanting more and more power Whats bad is soon the 'tow truck' will have more HP than the drag car ;D

If you don't mind me asking, what is your drag car?
[/quote]

Yeah the 'drag car' will always be quicker ;D Well its not a real attention getting car, just my play toy. Its a 94' pontiac Firebird that I have had for about 7 years now. Its got cam, heads, longtubes... car has been gutted of un-needed parts such as A/C and what not for weight (3200lbs). Its been completely re-wired and only has what is needed to run (kept the power windows lol). I still got big plans for it but put them on hold to buy this truck and mod it 8) Its a blast to drive but when you can smoke the tires at any speed below 70 its kinda useless on the street.
