EGT's tooo high

well this last weekend I loaded up the truckcamper ( about 4000 lbs ) and went to Morro Bay down by coast then back up hwy 1 for some sight seeing. my EGT's sat at about 1000 the hole time then pulling hills had to back out to keep it under 1200 and down shift to 4th and the edge box was on level 1 and going any higher only made it worse, i was only seeing about 10 psi out of the turbo. I think I need to down size my turbo for better towing but not sure what would be the the best route since i dont really get all the turbo numbers. was wondering if i took my hx-40w and found a stock hx-35 and made a high bread or just go straight hx-35. I dont have big money right now so if i went new turbo i would need to sell the 40 for the funds. anyone know what it might be worth? any help would be great
Thanks
turbo info -exhaust 18
-volute 16
- 6 blade impeller
not sure of any other number these are the one i could find.
Just an after thought if i am over fueled my drive pressure would be to high and a larger exhaust houseing would fix this but wouldnt it spool even slower?

DDP 75's and your comp box on 1 shouldnt be over fueling you at all IMO.

Have you checked your hoses and made sure you arent leaking boost somewhere? I would think you'd have more like 20 lbs with that fueling.

Also if you have a 18cm exhaust housing right now I would imagine you already spool up like a snail, I would see about changing that to a 16cm at the most. Seems like that might have something to do with not enough back pressure.

Those are my thoughts so far, I hope someone else chimes in cause I wanna hear some more about the 40 and changes you could do.

Also, check out Ebay and see what some used HX40's are goin for, that will give you an idea on sale price.

thanks I was thinking last night about it and maybe i am not moving enough air so if i put on a smaller exhaust housing it would make me spool up faster thus moving more air and lowering my EGT's? just a late night thought

Yea yea thats what I was thinkin too. Heck you could prob do just fine if you kept the 40 and put a 14cm gated housing on it. 14 or 16 would prob help alot.

well i am going to try and take the time tomarow and buy two expantion plugs and drill a hole in one tap it and buy a little air regulator then test my system for leaks first, if i dont find anything i will start looking for a 16cm exhaust houseing with a 4" outlet so i dont have to modify my downpipe.

You need a 16cm exhaust housing more than anything. The 18cm will be way too laggy and wont come up on the boost fast enough to keep EGT's down. Mine towed pretty well with my 16cm housing, but was still a little laggy. Im sure it is much better than what you have though. All the HX40 16cm exhaust housings had a 4" outlet. I actually have one that im going to sell. 16cm t-3 wastegated exhaust housing with a 4" outlet. I had a person asking me about it, but let me know if you are interested and if they dont want it, maybe we can work out a deal.

Also, the leak tester will be a good idea. If you have a boost leak that will hurt your towing performance and spoolup. What is maximum boost?

i run the 16cm housing with 150 jammers it's not to bad for towing i do have to let out to keep it under 1200 on stepper grades. im thinking about trading my 150's for something smaller because of the same reason. plus water goes fast when i do spray it. lol
