EGT Questions
Have been observing EGT readings (Pre turbo) for the last week now.

Other posts say you should shut down at 300F - is this a Cummins recommendation?

I've been waiting until the temp lowers to 250 or so - only takes 30 secs after highway driving/70-75MPH/50-65 degrees ambient. Does this shut down time appear normal?

JR

Re:EGT Questions
DawgII Yes it is a good temp. I installed an ISSOPro turbo temp, it shuts down the motor when the EGT reaches 300 Deg. I now just hop out when I come to a stop. No waiting at all. OverFueld

Re:EGT Questions
Tim: awesome. It's really thought provoking to watch the EGTs climb to 900 when I floor it in 5th. Makes me say to myself "JR, remember when the truck was barely holding its own in 5th when you were towing the camper up the Arbuckle Pass last summer? Remember it was 118 degrees outside too? Do you think you exceeded 1200 degrees?".
Anyhoo: You saved me the hassle of drilling/tapping my intake horn - thanks a million!

Also - I've been shutting it down 250 pre turbo - only takes 45 secs to 1 minute, even after highway speeds. This is quite a bit sooner than the manual recommends. I'm betting the time increases significantly once the summer hits (approx 50 degress higher ambient temp).

Re:EGT Questions
Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but I have read that post shutdown ceiling is 300, but pre should be a bit less, due to the residual heat in the exhaust housing. Therefore +/-275 pre would indicate approx 300 post. Since it's the turbo temp that we are concerned with at shutdown, the post probe reads this more accurately. It is a given that pre is far superior for accurate clyinder readings on the high end.
Sounds reasonable. What say you?

Re:EGT Questions
Overfueled, how did you get your truck to shut down automaticaly? I like that idea, and I'm interested in doing the same for my truck.

For right now I shut the truck down @ 250-300 pre turbo.
