Re:egt probe placement ?
depends on what you got ..one brand is safe b4 the turbo all others better put after the turbo.
if i rember corectly the safe one starts with the letter h -halstead or somthing like that.
[reason is you dont want the probe breaking off and going thue the turbo.

Re:egt probe placement ?
Pre-turbo is prefered for most users.
Here are pretty good instructions for installation.

Re:egt probe placement ?
I would strongly suggest placing the thermocouple pre turbo. Yes there is supposed to be a 300* difference but that rule of thumb changes with any modifications. I have only heard of a K type and a J type thermocouple. J is for up to 600* and K is up to 1500*.

I think "Hewitt" is the name you're looking for. As far as I know, they're the only company out there offering a lifetime warranty on a thermocouple.
In my opinion, you'll be fine installing any quality name brand thermocouple before the turbo.

You will get a more accurate reading pre turbo. I have installed lots of Isspro and a few Autometer before turbo with no problems. I put an Isspro t-couple pre turbo on my 91 D250 in 1995, 250,000 mi later it is working perfect.

XLR8-
I followed the TST instructions to the T. It worked like a champ. PM me if you want more details, as I also went the extra mile to ensure no fillings could go into my turbo.
