1350 for extended periods of time. 1400-1600 for very short bursts

For a simply safe rule of thumb.... I'm more conservative than "blackdiesel02".
Empty...long hill climb, etc. - 1200* max
Towing or hauling heavy... long hill climb - 1100* max
Short bursts, any conditions -no more than 10 sec over the above, and ok up to say 1500*!

With your power set up, these limits may be a little conservative.... but still a good safe rule to follow.
Better safe than sorry

I have to agree with RJ. But I'm conservative also. The truck cost too much to take a change and burn a hole in a piston. I also read a thread where they said # six cylinder is about 100 degrees hotter than the rest! So when I tow which is most of the time I don't go over 1100 up long grades!

I am curious as to what speed one could expect up say a three mile long fairly steep grade keeping at the 1100' temp. For myself this past weekend I kept my truck at 1200' to 1250' going 40 mph. Sure I had more power left but the temps make me a little nervous .

When I had a big single, it was interesting. Temps were no problem at 70-75 mph. Problem was traffic would not allow that speed. Ended up having to lock out OD and stay in third at 50 mph.... and 2000 rpm to keep egt's around 1100*!

With twins, all those headaches/concrerns disappear

Mine has got as hot as 2k (estimated) for very short bursts. It wont do it anymore but at least you know the manifold can withstand it.
