Effect of using CR pistons in a 24v motor
Is anyone using or know someone who's using CR pistons in a 24v motor. I am going to use the fracture cap rods and have a set of pistons to use. The bowl on a CR piston is more open I assume because of pilot injection but I think after about 1200-1500 RPM it doesn't have pilot injection anymore so it technically shouldn't affect the driveability except idle. The pistons out of a CR I think are lighter but not enough to swap solely on that fact.

I wonder how different the spray patterns are for the injectors and how much that will play a part in swapping the piston. Also, if the piston bowl is alittle bit bigger will it drop the compression ratio? Shouldn't be anything much, but just a thought to add.

I think the compression ratios are within less than one point of each other.
The bowl on a CR is more open but it's not as deep as a 24v. Rodram2002 how'd you like the helix two cam?

I don't think it's possible without extensive machine work other wise yes it would decrease piston temps. BUT the CR pistons have an internal passage that recieves oil and allows it to flow through the piston I think this contributes to the cooler temps more then just the jets themselves. There's one hole on the major thrust side and two on the minor. Hence the shallow bowl and lighter weight. The CR blocks have plugs where the 24v oil jets go and the bearings are still the same. In a CR you could run both styles of jets with no modification if you could maintain oil pressure. I'll have a look at my block on monday but I'm sure it won't be a)possible or b)easy.

why don't you just buy a common rail short block? my buddy has a company where he buys and sells engines and gets alot of diesels if you'd want I could ask him how much he sells builders to reman companies

ah free parts are always nice my buddy gave my a 12 valve cmplete engine with only 90,000 on it the only problem is that it's from a burned down truck so the afc was melted off lol but it's great for a long block minus the pump one of these days I want to do something with it lol
