Edge J/A Tap or No Tap??

Just picked up a J/A and have heard mixed things about tapping the VP44.
(I am not a hot-rodder and dont abuse my truck. It is a work truck and my $$$$ maker! I got a deal on the J/A that I couldn't pass up. Mostly using it for the gauges/towing.)
All that said....Should I tap the VP44?? Is it probable death to the VP44 if it is tapped? What would the power difference be for tapped/non-tapped?

Thanks

tapping the pump doesnt make death certain. Many have gone lots of miles with wire taps. Usually if it lasts the first couple of level 5 hard runs, then it will last a while. Non-tapped it would be just like the EZ, i believe. If you depend on your truck as your money maker i would say not to tap it....just my .02...others will chime in

What about using a BD stealth cover instead of splicing the wire, is this better than tapping the pump or does it have the same ill affects?

I belive all the cover does is make a nicer install without putting a hole in your wire. It make the connection with a small screw instead of a punctured wire. They both work the same way it's just that the cover is nicer.

If you tap it have a good fuel pump to back it up. I installed my Van Aaken when I first got my truck and it would surge because I had low fuel pressure. I took it off and after I installed my new AirDog I tried it again just to make sure it wasn't the box and it worked great.

Mine has been tapped for over two years now and I have not had a problem (knock on wood). With that said, I still do not think I would tap it on a truck that I make my living with. I did use the stealth cover and it is a nice clean install.

i have had a wire tap box on my DD for bout 2 years as well. some last with it some dont. ive also heard that when u put it on and it last for first day or two, it will last a while, maybe. i think its like the comp box, which is what i had, and it will be in EZ mode until u tap it. if it was me i would install it to use for gauges like u said and jus not tap the wire until u are good and comfortable. or not tap it at all if u are happy with the power increase with the EZ mode. buts that what i did anyways!!

If it's in "EZ mode" what would the power gains be for 1 through 5? Would this mean that I can run it on 5 all the time and only be looking at about 65 hp over stock? I have a Valair 400 hp clutch in the truck so I am not really worried about the power getting to the wheels.

Id tap it. if you leave it untapped you will want an upgraded fuel pump anyways. if it was me i would tap it. you wont notice a huge difference without the tap in power or mileage. I got the best mileage when i had my juice on level 6

I'm going to install without tapping for now. I mainly want to use it for the gauges. I will probably be happy with the 60 hp for now. Maybe it will keep me in line

I make my living with my truck and I tapped mine. It went tapped for over 3 years without a problem. The IP was recently changed but come to find out there was nothing wrong with it. It's now in my garage for a spare. My new pump is also tapped, no problems here yet! I just can't imagine running my edge without the pump tapped personally.

I just got off the phone with Edge. The guy said that you have levels 1-3 if you do not tap the IP. Like stated previously this will be good for 60 to 70 HP. I may tap it eventually. Gonna play it safe for now.
