Edge Ez Question

Re:Edge Ez Question
From what I understand, a very large percentage of people with 6 spd's do not have a problem with the EZ and a stock clutch. That said, there have been SOME who have had problems. I know one of them. His was starting to slip and he unplugged the EZ until he could put a new clutch in. I would recommend calling South Bend Clutch, or calling Edge Products to see what they say.

My personal opinion is that I wouldn't take any chances, but always remember that you are your own warranty station.

Re:Edge Ez Question
Silver Bullett, I have Diesel Dynamics version of the EZ and have had no clutch problems yet.(22,000 miles) I have a 9000 lb 5er and haven't slipped it yet, even during some hot rodding done up some nasty grades with trailer in tow. Jack is right, some do and some don't, I got lucky and got a decent one. I run the box on the most aggressive setting. Good luck!

Sam

Re:Edge Ez Question
I'm going to second what Jack said. Approximately 1% of all the people who have ordered EZs from me have slipped their stock clutches. I have my suspicions that some factory pressure plates are flawed from the factory don't exert enough force on the disc to hold.

My recommendation would be to give an EZ a try. If it doesn't slip the clutch, you're good. If it does, then unplug it. After unplugging, you've got two choices: return the EZ or upgrade to a South Bend Clutch. I have my suspicions, uncomfirmed (everyones upgraded to SBC ;D), that a stock clutch that slips with an EZ will also end up failing earlier.

Rod

Re:Edge Ez Question
I just thought I would put my 2 pennies worth in, as I must be in the 1 percentile rank. I have a edge comp, no pump wire, so its running in e-z mode. My clutch didnt last 2 weeks. I pull a fairly heavy camper, but I'm sure other people have pulled WAY more than I do. Everyone I talked to said my stock clutch should be fine. Maybe yours WILL, but I would recomend:be prepared to spend the $900 if nessasary. Good Luck!!!

Cat Cracker.

Re:Edge Ez Question
Can't argue with Cat on that one. Like I say, I think most of the people who have problems are in the minority, but you just never know. I personally would do the clutch first. That way you don't have to worry about it when you're ready to lay the power down!

Re:Edge Ez Question
It's not quite the "luck of the draw" in all cases. The 2002's -- and some of the 2001's -- have larger input shafts, a different spline count, a different pilot bearing, and a larger clutch than previous NV5600 set-ups -- precisely because DC & New Venture noticed that ETH engines hauling heavy loads were destroying clutches.
Your '02 clutch will most likely hold with an EZ and a set of mild injectors. Mine does, unloaded or pulling trailers filled with lumber and concrete.

Re:Edge Ez Question
I'm in the same boat as cat cracker, as I have the same box and can make my clutch slip if I get on it real hard, even when running empty. I like the responsiveness of box so well that I just drive carefully.

Unfortunately I can't get it to slip with the box off or I'd go chat with the dealer about the warranty. I have only 10,000 miles on it.

Re:Edge Ez Question
Here's my 2 cents. If you have the EZ, then it probably wont be long until you want more, more, more. Trust me it happens to all of us. I would just pinch pennys and get a clutch that will hold
