EDGE EZ, no gauges, have questions??

I bought this truck a couple of weeks ago, and the PO has the Edge EZ installed. Nothing else as far as I know other than a 4" exhaust from the resonator back. I am looking to upgrade the lift pump in the next month or so, and gauges when money permits. Am I playing with fire not being able to see the parameters I am running? I do mostly unloaded driving with some light towing here and there, mostly highway.

I've had an EZ and a full set of gauges on my truck (see my sig) for a number of years, and the only time I've had high EGT's is when I've been towing my fiver (12,000 lbs) or really jumping on the go-pedal i.e. drag racing. My truck is my daily driver and I am not one to jump on the pedal at every light. When I'm driving normally I've never seen EGT's that are dangerous. That being said, I would install a set of gauges when you can just to be safe.

Having a full set of gages is best. In ALL cases, a fuel pressure gage is a must. VP44's can go bad, but the majority agree that good fuel pressure is a great help to prolong it's life.

You should be fine if all the truck has is an EZ. I have two close friends that have 24valves with EZs and neither one of them can make their EGTs go over 1100 no matter how hard they try, loaded or unloaded. Plus theirs no telling how long the previous owner has been running it like that. As of right now, i would make getting a better lift pump and a fuel pressure gauge your top priority.

I have basically the same truck as you, but in a 2500. I can get the EGTs toasty if I lug it pulling my 9000# RV. Other than towing heavy at low RPM, you will be fine.
