Question Edge EZ

I own a 2nd Gen 2001.5 HO and would like to know what the negative effects if their are any of using a Edge EZ. Proper fuel supply to the VP44 is not a issue. All input greatly appreciated.TIA pipergsd

I've run one for seven years now. You will need gauges when combined w/injectors as slightly elevated egt's will be present.

the only one that i know/heard of is that ez is a pressure box. i guess it ups the pressure some how. someone else will elaborate on this more in a bit, but that's the only one i know of. i have had mine on for over 6 months now, great box. i got the smarty now too, so i call the edge my 'smoke box'. do you need an ez as well? i'm selling mine in the classifieds section!

The EZ is a fueling/timing box.
You only need to worry about the 'pressure' in the common rail CTD engines- not the 2nd Gen CTD engines.
Go ahead and throw it back on. You will be fine with the RV275's, but of course an EGT guage is always good to have. I had one for 4 yrs, then I upgraded to the Comp.

The EZ, used with the boost elbow supplied with it, is an excellent towing box. Because of its timing advance and the higher boost (30 PSIG versus 21 PSIG stock) the EZ by itself with stock injectors dropped my maximum pre-turbo EGTs while towing from 1300 degF stock to 1100 degF with the EZ, BHAF and 4" exhaust. It really fattens up the mid-range and gets rid of the 2100 RPM HO power surge.

I really don't know of any significant negative effects from using the EZ. I've been running mine since late 2001. And the 2nd generation EZ, by the way, is a timing and fueling box that has no effect on fuel pressure.

Don't go too wild with your injectors, however, unless you're planning on upgrading your clutch and driving by the pyrometer. When I switched from the stock injectors to DD2s, maximum EGTs when towing jumped to 1450 degF, and the stock clutch slipped running empty the first day the injectors were installed.

I ran my EZ with a set of DD2's for over 4 years with no problems at all, as long as I watched the pyro.

If you want to get a little fancy and have the best of both worlds, make the EZ switchable. I used to drive around mostly on the injectors. When I wanted to pass someone or have a little more power for towing, flip the switch and the EZ is on for an extra kick in the pants.

There are a few discussions on doing this on this board. It's a simple splicing job on the data link connector wires that plug in under the fuel filter canister. When the EZ is "off", it still acts as a boost fooler so the extra fueling/boost you get from the bigger injectors doesn't set any codes.

I'd still be using it today but ended up going to a Smarty. The EZ is still all connected in the truck and working, I haven't tried using it with the Smarty yet though.

I've run my EZ since 28K. I installed the RV275 injectors at 82K. I HAD to build a trans to handle it at 88K. I don't "hot rod" my truck, but those three mods made it a mighty fine tool to tow the toys.

Yup, that's basically what I said. Ignore the pyro and you can melt 'er down when towing heavy up a long grade!

I put one one my brothers 01 HO and he loved it. Picked up a few MPG and pulled way beter than stock. He pulled 7,600 almost every day and a with his backhow or man lift was over 26,000 (had to get it regestered with the D.O.T. for over 26,000) even with that an intake that I made with a AFE filter, MBRP 4" exhaust, and the EZ EGT's almost never reached 1,200. You will like it and should never have any probs. I try to only sell Edge becous It works so good and I have found that it runs cooler and better MPG's than Bullydog, and some other cheeper products on the same truck at the same power levels.
