Edge Comp - random, intermittent malfunction..
I have seen several owners post concerning the same type problem I am having - hope to see if there is a common denominator, or no-doubt-about-it fix!
Occasionally, usually after the truck is started and underway, I'll notice my Comp LED's are improperly lit, and the Comp is not functioning properly - the Comp then will NOT respond to ANY buttons on the front - can't turn it off, or change level settings. ALL that can be done to correct this, is to stop, and totally shut down the truck, and re-start it - NOT always easy or practical, especially with a trailer in tow out in the mountain grades, which is what *I* BOUGHT the Comp for to begin with!
Others I have read about with this problem, seem to have to return the box to Edge for repair or replacement - I'm wondering if that is ALWAYS the case, or has a common cause related to installation surfaced as the basic reason for this problem, loose connection, etc. - and if replacement IS the only solution to date, has that always totally corrected the malfunction?
I know I can go directly to Edge with this, and they seem to be good at correcting the problems that arise, but right now, want to make sure, directly from other users with the same problem, that it IS necessary, and DOES end the problem...
NOT much point in replacing the Comp, if the actual root cause is some anomaly in the truck itself that is creating the problem!

Its the box, this is a common problem that surfaced with a certain batch of boxes produced. Get it replaced from Edge. It IS the only solution, and yes its ALWAYS corrected the problem since it is within the box itself. No installation error, no loose connections, just a problem with the box itself.

And I'm pretty sure you can't simply unplug the box and still operate the truck without all sorts of codes being set...

They will suggest the same as I just posted. There is no way around it. Why would you have to uninstall the COMP? Unplug it at the back of the box, reconnect the MAP sensor correctly and unplug the data link connector and away you go. Leave the harness in the truck, should take 5 minutes tops. It will take a week or so for the turn around depending on when you ship it out (day of the week).

Re:Edge Comp - random, intermittent malfunction..
Those connectors weren't all that easy to get to and connect the FIRST time on my truck, and I'm not real anxious to repeat it... Plus, screwing around with connections tends to introduce still more variables and potential problems - I've read of a few guys who had Edge send them exchange replacements - may not be their standard policy, but I'd have no problems simply giving them a credit card # for security, and then canceling it when they receive my exchange unit - otherwise, I'd probably just let the truck stand until the exchange was done and a new unit in place...<br><br>We'll see what happens - I carefully went over all the plugs to make sure none had worked loose - just in case that's a contributing factor - can't call Edge until Monday anyway...

Or, if you live where I do, just drive on up, maybe 45 minutes away during rush hour.<br>Disconnect it, take it in, get the new one, reconnect and your home in another 30 (better comp, better speed ;D )<br><br>I just wish they sold direct, without all the distributor markup.<br><br><br>phox

Mine did the exact same thing. I called Edge and they said to ship it back to 'em. Shipped it back. As soon as they got it, they called me and said they were going to ship me a brand new one at no cost. No questions asked. Mine was under warranty though. I don't know bout yours. Knock on wood, I haven't had any trouble since. ;D

HMMmmm - seems to be a fairly common failure... <br><br>Wonder what it is that fails so often, yet apparently is so easily identified and corrected... Also wonder if any significant operating upgrades have been made since I bought mine...<br><br>Mine's almost a year old - got it right after I got the truck middle of last year - Edge seems to have a good reputation for service - but *I* also have a tight realtionship with "Murphy", and if anything CAN go wrong, it most likely WILL! ;D ;D

Thats why I didn't mention it. <br>As far as the connections, your paranoid, on the MAP simply connect it into itself on the harness to protect it and the data link would be easily cleaned upon reinstallation, don't mess with the wire tap. If you consider those connections "hard" then I dunno what to tell you.

"If you consider those connections "hard" then I dunno what to tell you. "<br><br>It isn't so much about being "paranoid", it's just that with other mods and stuff in the way, it's something I'd rather avoid if possible - I use the truck primarily as a tow vehicle, and it usually sits for days at a time unused - it's easier to simply wait for the possible exchange turnaround than to get into the unpluging exercise - I have another vehicle I can drive in the meantime - but an outright exchange where they send the replacement and then I return mine - with an acceptble deposit for their protection if required - would be best. After all, it HAS been pretty well established that this IS a common failure, and that an exchange IS the normal response - so we're not really breaking any new ground here... ;D ;D ;D
