Question Dyno testing silencer ring?

Has anyone done dyno testing with and without the ring installed on the same vehicle?

I have not done any testing personally, but have heard others report about a 5 hp loss with the silencer ring removed. These tests were on bombed trucks and I doubt it would have such a large effect on a stocker but you never know. The silencer ring does help promote some extra velocity because it does help smooth and staighten the air flow into the compressor wheel.....removing it eliminates the "velocity stack" effect that it creates.

A 5hp loss on a dyno could just be a variation from run to run. Listening to that turbo far outweighs the loss though.

Can it be reinstalled?

Mine is removed (done by previous owner) and I have been around diesel pickups for a while so the "I need to hear my turbo" thing is done and overwith... me just wants to feel the power not hear it any longer... I think I'm getting old...

But it appears that I might have both parts, the snap ring and silencer both but not sure... The silencer or that's what I think that is hanging out in the glove box, it's about the size of a coffee cup (diameter) - shiney and cone/dished shaped - the snap ring looks dang near like a piston ring correct - I mean it's an internal snap ring just one of those without the holes for removal.

Truck has more than enough power for what I want to so I just want her quiet as we go pulling down the highways and byways...

there is no performance difference... SOME turbos with very tight turbine housings will experience surging with the ring in place...

there is a reason the turbos are designed with the MWE slot. Dodge is the one who wanted the silencer ring... it is not to direct air to the compressor wheel, it is to make the turbo quieter.

and yes, it can be reinstalled

I removed mine, then re-installed it, no problem at all. Too much noise, I can hear turbo very well with my BHAF.
It takes 5 minutes to remove and/or install

The TAG people told me they recommend using the ring with a TAG...their testing showed no difference in HP with or without a ring.

They sent me a ring for my B-1 ( comes without a ring), to be used with the TAG. It actually increased the compressor back pressure (barking) I expirienced so I took it out. Had no effect on spoolup or max boost with or without.

My toolbox has been up to 10% quieter since placing my silencer ring inside of it!
Ive never had the chance to Dyno my toolbox with or without the silencer ring in it.

I'm still having trouble getting traction on the rollers with my toolbox! Castors and dyno rollers are tricky - Gotta get it strapped down tight - it's got a lot of torque ya know!

sounds like you found out why some turbos have those MWE slots!
