Dual Disk Install. Need Tips

I'm installing my 1st dual disk next week. It's a spring loaded Southbend. Is there anything special I need to know or any tips to make things easier? I've installed many single disks but never a dual disk. Thanks

Eric

I am installing my SB 3250 DD tomorrow. I called Advanced Diesel Technology & talked to Doug about the install. He said that you gotta slide the clutch discs on to the input shaft before installing to make sure that the splines have no binding problems. Also make sure you put a little grease in the pilot bushing to lubricate it so the input can slide in easier....just a little coating....not enough that it will fling on to the clutch disc upon startup. I ordered my clutch for the 1 1/4" input.....didn't order the 1 3/8" shaft. Which clutch did you order?

YEah just make sure your input alignment tool is in nice an snug before you go tightening the pressure plate to the fly wheel, two disc are alot harder to stab the input shaft them with one.

its not hard at all, im swapping my tranny saturday but im not even gonna pull my clutch down to look at it because it makes getting the tranny back in much hard with the discs just being a little bit out of alignment, and a plastic spline tool isn't perfect

If you're upgrading to the bigger input shaft, use it as your alignment tool. The plastic one sucks, and I had to do it over again with the input shaft.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I'm upgrading to the 1"3/8 shaft. I haven't decided what plate load I'm gonna get. Do y'all think with the 3600 I'll be able to launch it on the track in 2nd or 3rd gear without having to worry about breaking something? Also, with 3600 or 3800 will the hydraulic upgrade be nessicary? Thanks

Eric

I've got the 3600 with the hydraulic upgrade. I've got a fair bit more pedal effort than before, but definitely easy to drive with. I've heard (but don't have experience with) that the 3850 is not quite as nice on the street. 3600 is rated for 650hp, which should last me a while. Barely half that now.

She should hold up fine to some launche's, and you can try your stock hydralics first and if they start to get week you might have to get the upgrade

I just installed the SB hydraulics on my truck....way smoother than stock. I would upgrade it even on a stock clutch.

Second or third launches will not be a problem, but when I try launching in 4th on my 6 speed it'll slip for a second after I let the clutch out

Its a 12 cb 3600 and it's still holding after a lot of abuse The first thing you will break is traction

How do you guys keep your truck from bogging when you launch in those higher gears? I have to slip the clutch a lot to prevent bog when I do a second gear launch in my 5 spd. Is there anyway to build boost at the line a manual without using three feet: brake, clutch, throttle. If I could launch with 1-2 psi my truck would be lightyears faster.
