DTT vs. Goerend

Ok. I keep going back and forth on this one. I've driven a DTT equipped truck and it was amazing (thanks again rjohnson). It shifted how I wanted, it drove how I wanted, everything was perfect except the price (pretty expensive). But then again, I've never heard of a DTT failing because of something wrong with the tranny itself. But on the same hand, I've never heard a single bad thing about Goerend either. Their prices are right, from what I'm told(never driven one) their tranny's are freaking awesome, and their customer service is top notch (but so is DTT's). So what's to stop me from ordering a Goerend instead of a DTT? I can certaintly afford the goerend a heckuva lot sooner than a DTT. If it's gonna be just as reliable as the DTT then what's stopping me? I guess I'm just feeling a bit uneasy about dropping this much money into a tranny. I want to know that I'm gonna get my money's worth. This is my baby and I can't stand to hurt her anymore than I have to (she does need a good thrashing every now and then ). Please don't turn this thread into a war. All I want is good, solid, factual info about either tranny. Sell me on one or the other. It's going to be christmas time (pray to god) that I put in the order for this thing.

Sounds to me like you have already made up your own mind on the issue. You do not have anything to lose by going with the lower cost tranny. The warrranty is better, the price lower, the customer satisfaction is good. Whats to lose? Keep saving those pennies cause your gunna need all you can get. I just bought diesel tonight......Got $40.00 worth and only got a little over 12 GALLONS OF FUEL!!!!!!!!!!

I have not yet made up my mind and I won't make up my mind until the day I lay the cash on the counter of which ever vendor I'm going with. I'm just asking for the opinions of the fine folks on this board. They've helped me with all of my other decisions and this is a major decision.

I noticed in the past that even good solid factual info will still start a tranny war. What I don't understand is how you can have 87k on your truck and not have it setup to have at least 300 hp. lol

Well i can say that you're not the only one who is uneasy about spending $5K-$6K or more on a tranny. I have yet to buy a tranny for my truck, but I HAVE decided where I will get it from as soon as I have the money. I was recently in your position, torn between 3 of the major tranny builders and hearing good things about all of them. Well i researched it for months on the internet (thanks to DTR), but still couldn't make up my mind. But after a phone call to each of the tranny shops, Suncoast, Goerend, and DTT, my desicion was quickly made. I talked to Stephan at DTT and he pointed out lots of facts about there transmission vs. the others, that was all it took for me! Basically he gave me factual info and backed it up, without trying to sell me anything, which was just what I needed to help me make my desicion.

I also would not suggest relying on just what others have to say. Call up the shops yourself and talk to them, you might be suprised at what you will learn.

I know Im goin with a full goerends when I get the green for it. Hopefully within the next month or sooner. The price was my factor Dave said that he could build and have it shipped both ways for way less than the others wanted. Also the warranty you just cant beat it.

I have a GB tranny. I called both shops and had rather lengthy conversations with them. The biggest thing to me was the customer service. They were both great, but Dave took the time to call me back and answer questions without making it sound like I was imposing. He also said I could install the tranny and there would be absloutely no problem with warranty either. At the time there was not a DTT shop even close to me. Yes, the price has something to do with it. BTW, Dave told me that he has the same tranny behind some 600hp trucks with no problem.

Well, I should be at about 300hp but according to the dyno I'm only at 260 so I don't know.

Brandon, why are you saying goerends is only good to 425? You can PM me if you want to.

Don't PM him, I would like to see your opinion. I am in a similar, yet different situation, trying to decide who's parts to buy to build my own!!

If i were buying a built tranny it would be a goerend. Probably when i decide i want to write the check for a single disc converter, it will be one from Dave Goerend. I think they are all good, but i have just heard so much great stuff about goerend, and he is cheaper, with just as good or better customer service. Either way you wont go to bad wrong.lol I just think if it were me i would go goerend.

I'm a very satisfied DTT user. Since I never saw a Goerend tranny I can't comment on them.
My personal experience with DTT is that outstanding that I do recommend them. They aren't cheap but I feel I got my $$$ value in parts, development and support. I know this won't help BB but IMO you can't go wrong with DTT.

Alpine that's the problem I'm running into. I can't seem to go wrong with either. I can either pay a little bit more and go with a builder who's been around for a long time and has been proven many times or I can save a little and go with a builder who hasn't been around as long but seems to have just as good of a tranny. One things for sure, I need a tranny and I'm gonna need one before long.

I love my DTT, called and talked with both, but Stefan seemed to take the time to answer my questions better than Dave did. At the time Dave was not around as long, and I knew DTT would be there in the long run. Looks now like Dave will too, so either way would be good. I can only tell you I went the DTT route, and am not sorry.
