Thank-you everyone, my torque converter install is going to be done with/by a friend of mine who basically only works on auto trannies, so we plan on a thourough inspection of all the parts while installing the T.C. and shift kit or valve body. I have had some nice conversation with georand brothers and think that I will ask him if he sells a shift kit or has recommendations about them.

thanks again for all the help

Just a heads-up for the folks who are installing shft kits, etc. When you have the VB out, make sure that the little ball bearing that contacts the shift rack is not loose in its mooring. If the body is worn, the flow through the valve that supplies the front clutches can be almost completely shut-off. Depending on your luck, the front clutches will fry sooner or later.
Don't ask!!!

Talk to Dave about that shift kit Word from Josh Peters is that Dave designed the Trans-go shift kit. Dave is a VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY helpful person, he knows his stuff! If you really want to get him going, ask him about his new stator for the torque convertor!

TC install/labor cost

If a DTT t/c runs $925 what is a typical installation and labor charge?

You'll need to do more than just swap the TC, if they'll just sell you the TC alone. I had to get new input shaft rings installed, a new switch valve and they wanted to know what the boost circuit was drilled out to when the shift kit was installed. My guess as to why DTT sold me the TC alone is that I just had a complete rebuild and my truck is fairly mild for mods. I haven't got a labour cost yet as the trans shop is trying to get AutoTrans (the manufacturer of the Prowest Pro-Tow TC) to pay for at least some of the labor to do the swap. Autotrans doesn't seem to be too interested in talking to the trans shop or me. It looks like it might be another expensive lesson in life.
If anyone is interested, Autotrans website is here. AutoTrans ProTow Another prime example of "don't believe everything you read on the internet". The Protow converter that was installed in my truck has a stock 2200 RPM stall speed. My trans shop gave me a deal on it at $960CAN ($728US).
