DOR Bumper Modifications
I didn't really like all the underside visible under the Denver Offroad bumper,
so I made a little modification.
(actually did it 2 weekends ago, just got around to taking pics, mud splatters and all)
Here it is before modification.
You can see the radiator mounts, sway bar and mounts, hoses and wires.
(if the pic isn't too dark, my computer monitor is on it's deathbed and the pic is very dark to me)

I took the factory air dam from the original bumper and attached it to the DOR.
I used the original hardware, measured a couple times, and drilled 10 holes in my new bumper.
Momma always told me, "Measure Twice, Cut Once",
so I actually measured at least 5 times before I started drilling.
I was surprised how easy it is to drill into aluminum.
Here it is with the air dam

Still deciding if I want to paint it black or leave it the original dark gray.
In normal light, it doesn't look that bad, but in direct sunlight, you can tell that it is a different color.
There is a new paint out that supposedly bonds itself to plastic very well,
with no prep other than cleaning.
Krylon Fusion is the name.
Here's a closeup.

It doesn't quite follow the contours of the bumper, leaves a little gap on each side,
but serves the purpose.
The pics I've seen of other DOR's don't really show the gap under it,
I think since my truck is a bit higher than most, it shows it more.
As luck would have it, as I was doing this, a guy from down the street pulled up and asked if I still had my original bumper and if I wanted to sell it.
One of his employees rear ended someone while driving the company Dodge.
I told him sure, minus the part I had in my hand at the time.
He came back a couple hours later with $250.00
(was thinking $300, but minus the air dam, $250 didn't seem to bad)
As always, full size pics are in my album, page 20 of Members Photos.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Re:DOR Bumper Modifications
The after looks much better after than the before. If it was my truck I would paint it black. Not familiar with that paint. Recently had the back bumper, (the plastic facia only) replaced on my car and the body shop painted it with a special semi-flexible paint made specially for plastic parts like bumpers. Sorry, have no idea of the brand or type of paint. Just pointing out that this kind of paint is available. Do know that it was more expensive than 'normal' paint.

I think the consensus is to paint it.
I have about 10,000 miles on the BFG's and they still look pretty new, treadwise.
The sidewalls are another story.
I hit a curb and left a nice scar on one of them.
Whatever mud I have been in is impossible to clean off, time to try some armorall or whatever that is made especially for tires.

Re:DOR Bumper Modifications
Looks alot better now than without the air dam.
Painting would just be optional.
I think it looks good without painting.

OH, I dunno - some of that black/yellow diagonal striping Highway service vehicles use would look sorta neat... ;D

Looks real good Phox! I have been looking into doing something to accomplish the same thing and you may have been a heck of alot more creative.
Mine looks like it is missing something too...

Try "Westley's Bleach White" and a stiff brush on the tires. After that use ArmorAll Tire Foam - my Wrangler RTS with the ribbed sides and curb scuffs even came out looking good.

Re:DOR Bumper Modifications
Phox,
I will get you the MFGR name tommorrow from Mike's Off Road I never can remember it. I had them cut two holes in it and fab pipe flush into the holes for my factory fog/running lights. Other than that the look is not too far from yours.
My truck is a sport and my bumper center bar lines up with my grill center.
Mine is obviously heavier than yours and if I had known about your brand I probably would have bought the one you have!
other thing I dislike about mine is the what you didn't like about yours... The exposed area under it!
I had been talking to them about welding a skirt of some kind under mine but... MORE WEIGHT :-

Re:DOR Bumper Modifications
Phox - looks really good. How did you attach to the DOR? Some sort of plastic or metal rivet? I've been thinking of this as well but wasn't sure how to attach. Thanks,
Jason
