Door Speakers
Hey guys/gals,
I am starting on the audio in my 01' and I am going to start with the door speakers. I need to know what sizes fit well and without major modification. I am looking at component sets and mounting the tweeter somewhere since I don't have the stock infinity system. The plan is to run them off my H/U power for now and add a 4-channel amp later. So what brands fit well with the shallow doors? I was looking at Pioneer Premiers and Infinity Reference Series speakers but I am open to other suggestions. I am going to use the H/U from my 91' (JVC) and if 6x9's can fit anywhere that would be great so I don't have to buy other sizes that would be great.
TIA

People will say that 6x9's don't fit in the front doors. However, a lot of them do. I bought into what Crutchfield said would fit and bought 5 1/4" componants for the front doors with the tweeter mounted in the lower hole of a 3 guage piller pod. While I was putting them in, I test fit my pioneer 3-way 6x9's and they fit in the factory 6x9 front door spot just fine with no window interference. They sounded a .... of a lot better too. Just get an average to below average depth 6x9 and try it.
The rear doors are 6 1/2 and won't fit a 6x9 without cutting.

This post doesn't belong in performance ..
But i'll respond anyway's ... i just swapped out w/ a new set of infinity 1913's ... and they fit ok ... had to modify the panel slightly .... It's incredible how much better they sound than that stock infinities (even before they were blown).

STANDARD
The standard equipment speaker system includes
speakers in four locations. One full-range 15.2 by
22.9 centimeter (6.0 by 9.0 inch) speaker is located in
each front door. There is also one full-range 13.3 centimeter
(5.25 inch) diameter speaker located in each
rear cab side panel for the standard cab and the club
cab models, or in each rear door of the quad cab models.
From the 01 manual.

I would not count on that bud. I have 4 way Pioneer 6x9's in my door and they are too deep unless you use a spacer. You can make them work by just using 2 of the screws but it still rests against the window track.

Well thats good to know the 6x9's will fit as I have 4 pioneer 6x9s in the 91' that I will take out. Now two of them are the Pioneer Premier (yellow ones) and they are the nicest ones and they barely fit in the doors if the 91'. Think that those will fit in the 01'? What kinda spacer are you talking about?

It is just a ring the goes inbetween the basket of the speaker and the door, 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Real easy to make if you can't find them. I had some that a friend gave to me but misplaced them, so I still have mine held in by 2 screws.

kicker 6x9's in the front and kicker 5.25's in the suicide doors, sound great, fit great. cardomain.com or crutchfield.com will tell ya what fits and what doesn't. Use crutchfield's foam speaker baffles and a sheet of dynamat for each speaker and make sure to buy some extra panel clips before you start! my $0.02
