one just plain wrong statement (the one about the vp not being lubed by fuel on decel).
Not being lubed on decel? I think Chip's statement is correct. Where's your source for it being wrong?

PourinDiesel,,
Ohh,, Stop your whining ;D, like piercing the wire is your only worry? :P

If you go with twins, you are looking at some headwork also, as most can easily provide enough boost to keep 500HP cool, and that much boost will lift a head, or push the HG out.

You MUST maintain proper fuel pressure to the VP44 once the wire is pierced. You do cut down on it's life span, and no, not all boxes are equal. The TST box fuels harder than the COMP box.

If he really did sau he didn't pierce his wire on his first gen, then get your rubber boots on, it's startin' to get deep.
The wire is only pierceable on VP44 equipped trucks. '98.5-'02.

It depends on how much you want to pay for that extra 60HP the pierce gives you is up to you.

Re:DONT PIERCE THAT PUMP WIRE!!!

Thanks for everyones input. Now I am getting the real down low. If I were selling boxes that enabled the pump wire to be pierced I would also give the pros and no cons. Just wondering if anyone is running twins without the wire? Again I think he was just making the point that his 1st gentruck runs this well without a pierced pump wire or even a place to pierce it. I didn't have the mods done to this truck, I bought it from a friend that took it to Texas to have them done. The only time I talked to Chip was to ask him what size injectors he installedin it. That is when he gave me this info. I just wanted everyone elses input. Thanks.

Re:DONT PIERCE THAT PUMP WIRE!!!

Are you sure that 1st gen didn't have a 24v motor in it before you claim he didn't pierce the pump wire, just a thought, there are a few 1st gen's running around with 24v motors.

I highly doubt you will find anyone with no wire pierced with twins on a 24v because the wire being pierced along with injectors is what caused the need for twins in the first place.

I know of a few people dyno'ing mid 400's all the way to high 500's without the pump wire pierced.

It's not nessacary(sp?), but sure is fun!

The notion that Bosch would make a pump that spins at 3000 rpm down a mountain for minutes on end without any lube is, to me, absurd.

Would certainly discourage the use of an exhaust brake, don't you think?
Was that 3,000RPM a slip up? It's clearly not correct.

Why would they discourage an exhaust brake?

Re:DONT PIERCE THAT PUMP WIRE!!!

Sounds like this guy wants to sell you a set of twins to me. A friend of mine has the pump wire pierced and has had no problems out of his pump. It may also depend on having a pusher pump or not that will cause the pump to go bad with the pump wire pierced. I must say that I agree with Cowhand, 12 valves and no worries.

Re:DONT PIERCE THAT PUMP WIRE!!!

I don't know what y'all are talking about. The VP44 is the best injector pump ever made. A fine piece of European engineering. Before I pierced my wire, I had three lift pumps go out. Finally got so sick of it I just took the last lift pump off and never replaced it, just ran a straight 1/8 inch hard line from the tank to the VP44, and let the injector pump pull the fuel. 214,000 miles later and it's still going strong. And I don't need no fuel pressure gauge, either. Replaced that one with a temperature gauge for my NV5600 tranny, most useful gauge I've got. I've run diesel, kerosene, water, gasoline (whoops, my mistake), and used, unfiltered french fry lard from McDonald's through my VP44, and it's never given me a hassle. I run at 114*F in summer at my blanket factory in Arizona, and at -114*F in winter, selling blankets in northern Saskatchewan. I love the VP44. I'm buying one to pump water from the deep well underneath my house. I've got another one pumping liquid propane and liquified coal dust to the 6.0L in my wife's Ford Pinto Powerstroke conversion.

i dont want to hijack this thread but what is a mid 400 horse 24V made up of?? i realize that the boxes dont do as much for the ETH's as they do for the ETC's....but what else can you do besides a BIG set of showerheads?

Re:DONT PIERCE THAT PUMP WIRE!!!

Geez, after Parvenu's post, I'm ready to ditch my P7100 and do a VP-44 equipped 12 valve. I ran the french fry lard throught the 7100, and the coal dust worked fine too, but the P-pump didn't like the 60/40 summer blend of lard and coal dust, so it has to go. I contemplated a belt feed and small pug mill so I could run straight Montana oil shale, but I ran into limitations with the overflow valve. I think the pop-off pressure is too low. Maybe if I stretch the spring a couple thousandths...If I just convert it to the VP-44, then I can stack 6 boxes. Who needs injectors? I'll just plumb the injector lines directly into the cylinders. I know McDonalds french fry lard is really hard to push through those little bitty holes in those injector thingies, so who needs 'em?

Hey Parvenu, how bad does the french fry lard smoke?
