Does this seem a bit high or is it normal?

Does this seem a bit high or is it normal?

I finally found a competent mechanic that knows the 12valve motor well as that's that he races in his 10.5 sec 1/4 mile 4x4 truck (and he built the green Stuckey Racing truck)..... anyway i stopped by to talk to him about pricing on doing some work since i finally got a tranny in the truck that'll hold some power...... here is what i'm planning on with my truck...

Bump the timing to 16-17*
Retorque(sp) the head
adjust the valves
tab the KDP
replace all the gaskets and seals on the front of the motor
do some fuel plate work and AFC housing work
*maybe* put in some injectors and dv's while he's doing the other work

minus the cost of injectors and dv's but including the cost of gaskets, seals and labor he said around $700...... does that sound fair or is he ripping me a new one?

that seems fair to me...from what i understand the KDP tab is not the easiest task, timing is not so simple and time consuming, plus everything else you listed.

It might be a little high, but sounds pretty reasonable. Plus the guy seems to really know these engines, and is not just a wrench turner, whuck is worth more money in my book.

I paid $225 for just timing and a valve adjustment.

Sounds almost too fair for me

mechanics down here go for 70 bucks an hour, and with the KDP needing at least three hours or so, Im guessin, that that cost is fair... Besides, a 10 second 4x4 is dang fast.. id jump on it.. and timing also takes a good hour and a half or so...
