Do it your self 5" lift.

Do it your self 5" lift.
I think I'm going to make my own 5" lift. Everything is just way to expensive and I allready have a 2" setup. I just need sway bar drop brackets. 3" blocks/coils and maybe longer controll arms. I wont have the correct length bump stops and ill probably over extend my shocks but who cares. My question is do you NEED to have the upper controll arm raised up? or can I just get longer ones? I know the tuff country kit does not include any relocation brackets for the upper arm but most kits do. If I need those brackets for one reason or another I imagine it will put the cost out of reach and I'll just wait till I can fix another one of chrystler's screw ups and put a leaf spring axle up front.

jeep tj (97-presant) use the same 4 link setup with a panhard bar. none of the aftermarket kits for Jeeps raise the upper mounts like the skyjacker kit on the dodge. i raised my Jeep 6" using the factory upper arms, (1/2" longer lowers) to correct caster angles, dont know if it is a problem on Dodge's or not but on the Jeep we also had to redrill the panhardbar mount on the axle 1" to the drivers side (to center the front axle under the Jeep)
FWIW the Jeep now sits on 42" swampers with about 8" lift, and custom (my design) double triangulated true 4-link.

Yes u need to relocate the upper arms for 5" of lift.......You also need to visit www.pavementsucks.com for all your lift answers...
I have 3" coil spacers but i'm going to get a set of Skyjacker D25 coils to add to that so i will be around 5.5" in the front....But i'm fabbing new arms ...Plus off ebay i got a set of Skyjacker upper relocation brkts....

SWEET! Quite a few PBB'ers on this board and TDR . I only recognized redruM because he's always on the Jeep area over there - guess you're on the Toyota side . Post up a few pics of the FJ40 in the 'Other' area on this board, if you have time - I'd love to see it!

Captain, another place you could try is the classfieds section at www.pirate4x4.com or check the 'Vendor Marketplace' area on that same site - sometimes they've got specials on lift components in there - member porc deals with a lot of that stuff, I think. As a warning, though, don't post 'beginner' type of questions in any of the forums - the guys there aren't friendly with beginners...
