Do I really need one?

Well I have everything I need to install my Isspro FP gauge. My question is, do I need to install a needle valve? I also heard that the needle valve helps with the pulses from the VP44, any truth to that? My friend seems to think that I don't need one, and that since the gauge is made to meassure fuel pressure the pulses shouldn't effect it. What do you guys think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some pulse worse than others but if you include the valve on your install, you won't have to take the system apart again to address a guage that is hit so hard it's only a blur. You can also use your valve to bleed off air after changing the fuel filter.

Before I added the needle valve, my gauge would buzz from the pulses.

By the way I'm using one of these fittings to tap into the fuel line right before the VP44

Yeah, the needle valve is mandatory. You must dampend the pulses or they will stretch the bourdon tube inside the guage.

You should consider post filter (on the bottom of the fuel filter)...

Well I'm runnin the AirDog, so using the old filter is not an option. I'm runnin a 1/2 fuel line into a 90 fitting into a reducer which goes into the pump. The fitting from Jegs will fit inbetween the 90 and the reducer. I will be using a 4AN SS braided line, and 1/8 fittings. I was just checking if I would need a needle valve or not, I didn't say I didn't want one. Just wanted to see what the reasons for one were. So I will pick one up next time I'm at the hardware store. Thanks fellas

that needle valve will also be handier than a shirt pocket in the event of gauge/tube failure on the road

Well my friend is pretty set that I don't need a neelde valve. He thinks that having the valve almost closed would give me an inaccurate reading. He also thinks the valve would fail before anything else because of the small movable parts. I do plan on runnin one. I see where he is comin from, and I see why I would need one. But what's the deal? I'm somewhat confused about why "yes" and why "no".

for the couple of bucks it will cost put the needle valve in...it WILL save your guage. A $4 needle valve is cheaper than a $50 gauage.

just remember "pressure IS relative" and "liquids do not compress" the needle valve IS a flow restrictor and it DOES alter the flow to stop pulsing, but it has NO way to alter pressure....unless it is closed you might find that your readings are a few nano seconds slower then without it, just remember they (gauge mfg's) all say install outside w/o isolater.

When my manual oil pressure gauge puked in my jeep I had oil everywhere by the time I realized what just happened and shut it down...that would have been a huge mess if I would have been in traffic! I was fortunate enough to have some needle nose vice grips to shut it off to get back on the trail, but it made one seriousmess first!!!

the $5 you spend on the valve will be cheaper then tryin to get the diesel smell out of the truck!
