Disadvantages of Mystery Switch

What are the disadventages of having a lock-up switch? The local tranny guy said that taking the fusing out and jump wiring it will cause the tranny to go into limp mode. He could then find a reason to void my warranty. Is there another way to set up a lock-up switch? I really like having control of the lock-up but I don't want to void my warranty. Thanks.

With the 98.5 and up it the lockup switch will set a code (I don't know whether it will for the 12V) because the PCM sees the jumper cable instead of the relay and thinks the relay is bad.
Since a lockup switch does place a much higher load on the tranny (shifting locked, low rpm- high torque situations) I do understand your tranny guy for not wanting you to use it.

(PS-I've got a lockup switch and like it- but if I break my tranny by abusing it I know that there's no warranty...)

On your 12 valve about the only disadvantage I can see is coming to a stop with it locked up many times. If you did this it seems anyone should have the right to void your warranty.

The tranny guy said that w/o the fuse, it would go into limp mode. I had it on my tranny before I rebuilt it, and it never caused a problem. I'm thinking about putting it back on w/o him knowing because i love the extra braking and hate how the TC disengages when you let off of the pedal. Thanks.

There are a few after market tranny control systems liek the ATS commander. It will unlock it when the truck gets to 18mph to keep from stalling it out.

The other problem is low rpm high throttle. The PCM will usually unlock to save the converter clutch and/or the tranny clutche(s)

A few guys have broken the input shaft and or the flex plate too!!!
The fluid coupling during shifts is to cushion the hard parts.
With my set-up, normal driving is fine unlocked. Locked is abuse.

I wired a 3-position mystery switch on my '98 to control both the OD & TC lockup solenoids. That way, the truck doesn't wander in and out of OD at ~45mph, and the truck drives like a manual on the interstate.

On an auto '05 (mine is a G56), the tranny solenoids should operate off of a switched ground circuit - so I'd try switching the YL/LB wire to the torque converter solenoid as a start... you really ought to check the schematics to make sure though!
