Question Direct Filter to Turbo Fitment

If I was to attach a K&N Highflow cone filter directly to the turbo without the hose would this cause any problems?

So if I installed a bonnet vent or a scoop of some kindthis would improve things, yes.

Oh by the way thanks for answering the question.

That could work well. Nothing better than cool outside ram air. But what about rain?
Would suggest the larger cone filter that comes with the FIPK II, if it will fit! I think the number is a 1525 filter.

kurtwalton:
Did you consider a scotty2? quite stealthy and high up from the wet stuff. The big AFE filter the scotty uses is shurely flowing some air. I don't think (an assumption) that there's a filter for direct fit to the turbo that has the same flow.

Just my 2c

Thanks Alpine,
The problem is as you are aware the purchasing and the cost +shipping to Europe the filter I have at the moment is the biggest K&N that would fit the area I know that there is an issue with heat but if I fitted a scoop in the middle of the hood then the rain shouldnt get to close, theres probably the same chance of spray from the underside of the truck, how about some thermal exhaust wrap or turbo lagging to keep the heat down? Just thoughts dont have a lot of cash but want the truck to breath a bit better.

if you are any good at welding you can make an afe type filter holder. there isn't much to them a couple pieces of sheet metal welded together, a 3in pipe through the middle and drill 3 holes and put the stock hold down srews through them

Kurt- will your new filter fit to the stock rubber hose in any way (like inexpensive way)
Then you could put it up in stock location and put a heatshield on like for the BHAF. The template for the heat shield can be found on this site.
The original BHAF is available through Cummins in Europe. Don't know the price anymore but it wasn't bad.
