Dimensions of Spacers

Hey there, well my tires keep rubbing my nerf bars and I am fresh out of money right now so I was wondering if anybody could help me out and give me the dimensions of the spacers you put in the front to level out the front end. I was going to use hockey pucks as many of my friends suggested but I like to do things right and I dont think hockey pucks are big enough for our springs.
Also, I plan on making them of sold steel, is this a good idea? Or should I try and make them out of some other material?
Thanks for all the help.

Hockey Pucks??? How do you/they think that would work???

I think you should probably wait until you get the funds to buy a properly engineered leveling kit/spacer. Homebrewed stuff can be dangerous to you and others if you do not have a thorough understanding of engineering and materials.

What I am thinking for hockey pucks is mabye on Coils without the shock through the centre? Or mabye what they do is stack them under the leafs to make a taller block. I dont know, its a really hillbilly way of doing it, I will have to ask my friends where they have seen it.
Also, I dont think that it would be all that hard to make them, just make sure that they are level all the way around. They would not be on there long, just until I can afford some new front Springs. Probably til spring.

I wouldnt bother asking your friends...

Take a look at a puck....how big is it?? 3 inches? now take a look at the top of your coil....how are you going to make a puck fit under there? The rubber on a puck probably isnt hard enough to support the weight either. I stand by what I said before....this is a matter of safety - not only of you but of others as well. If you got in an accident and ended up killing someone...guess what the will find when they inspect your truck? Some kind of farmer fix like hockey pucks under the coils....you could be looking at a lawsuit.

Im not trying to knock your idea....just giving you the facts.

Well like I said in my first post I definately wont be putting hockey pucks in there as thats something you do to a truck that you want some more clearence on that you are taking to a mud run and dont plan on taking it home . Not for something that is going to last.
Thats why I am looking for suggestions about what kind of material I should make some spacers out of, and dimensions, and if it is too difficult for me to make, I can always take it to a metal manufacturing place and see if they can make something up.
You can trust me when I say that I am not going to be putting no 'farmer fix' on a 6600lb machine on wheels travelling down the road at 100 clicks or more. I do have some sort of common sense.

these guys make them maybe you can take a look at theirs and get an idea. looks like you find the dimensions of your stock spacer and add how many ever inches you want to go. i think they make theirs out of billet aluminum.

Diesel kid, I made my own after the fact that I am a tight wad when it comes to spending money! I bought a 3 inch lift kit for my half ton dodge from e-bay and it had a set of 3 inch spacers and lower control arms. When it come time to want to do this to my diesel, I thought {"ya know, I can build a set of them!"} and I did! I have a lot of scrap steel around and found the right stuff to do it. It is kindof complicated to explain, And I see myself as a experianced fabricator.these took alot more time then you think! If you have any doubts in your mind DON"T BUILD THEM!!!! buy them or wait till spring to buy them. I do have a email adress of the outfit I got my lift from and they sell parts, add-a-leafs, rear blocks, front spacers, drop pitmman arms all kinds of stuff.

Well I have some equipment around the shop for fabricating and lots of spare metal. I have been looking at them and it looks like I would just need to make them up on my lathe and milling machine. Then get two sides bolts to permanately thread into there. If someone could even help me out with some pictures, or dimension, it would help me out alot.
Thanks.

I have used hockey pucks for spacers on the overload stops. They work ok for that but I sure would not use them to support main suspension. They crack in half after awhile.
