different filter for my K&N FIPK

would it be possible to order a filter from another vendor & install on my FIPK ??? I have read alot of dicouraging things about the K&N line of filters & was wondering if I could possibly find a filter such as the AFE or Quadzilla green filters & use just the filter on my current setup?????? anybody have experience with different intakes to know which, if any, filters might work with what I have???? thanks, Dusty

I have read the same discouraging things about the K&N I don't think it is all true. But never the less one wants to be safe so I bought the K&N dry charger to go over my filter it works quite well as the filter stays clean and all the little stuff is stuck onto the dry charger. If that is not what you want Amsoil makes a filter that will work on the FIPK

I would not put outerwear on an FIPK filter... not designed for one...and never needed one on mine! Assume you have the FIPK II (with bigger filter).

Are you finding any debris or oil in your air intake hose...or in the throat of your turbo. If not...your FIPK is fine!

If you are...... the latest and greatest alternative is the nanofiber filter from Amsoil. I've heard great things about this filtering medium...but I have no personal expirience with it.

Some initial testing done here.....

You could measure your K&N and call AFE and see it they make a Pro Gaurd & that will fit it.

K&N does make a "dry charger" made to fit the fipk II filters, when I get a minute I take a pic of mine

I just ordered an AEM dryflow filter that I am going to use on my AFE Stage 2 intake (so I don't have to oil it anymore). I think you'll find that most of these CAI's have standard sized filters on them and pretty much anyones filters will work with the rest of the kit. I should have the filter tomorrow and will let you know how I like it, I already like the concept wash it once a year and no oiling.

I found the dry charger on the K&N website, since it is designed to run with the K&N products then surely it will be ok won't it???? I would just really like something to keep some of the bugs/hayseed & such out of the filter so it's not so hard to clean, I spend alot of time off the road in the fields & such & the last time I cleaned my filter it was horrible, I figured the dry charger would help keep some of the larger debris out of the filter, thanks alot, Dusty

I just looked at mine and there is a big bug stuck to the dry charger and some other things like seeds from trees and a lot of sand that has been blown up from off the road. So it is keeping big and small junk away from the filter. Any way I bought it from a local speed parts shop about $30 it looks like it will pay for it self, if I double my miles on service of the filter and it looks like it will do better than double. I just spray the dry charger with filter clean and rinse with water let it dry and it goes back onto the fiter no oil used. Oh and it fits real good to the filter easy to put on and take off.
