Question Differences between DD Comp and EDGE Comp boxes

What are the differences between the Edge Comp box and the Diesel Dynamics Comp box? DD claims up to 150 HP, and Edge claims 120 HP, that's quite a difference. I am looking at ditching my Banks Ottomind for a Comp, which version would work better with my setup (below)? Thanks, --Neil

just how is you clutch doing with the DD3's and ottomind right now...i see a new one is on the way, are you replacing it to be safe, or is the old one slipping?

The clutch is fine, I haven't noticed any slipping yet, if it is I can't tell. This along with the lower amounts of smoke, lead me to believe the ottomind isn't doing much. I haven't ordered a clutch yet, I want to make this one last if I can.

You will need to upgrade your clutch neil the comp or dd box can spin your clutch without injectors. I have heard and this may be a rumor that the DD box is a little smoother when the power come's on but like I said I havent tried dd box and this could just be a rumor maybe somebody in here has tried both and can chime in

The edge comp and DD are made by the same people, Edge products. The DD UFM has less timing than the edge comp.

If you look at DD charts there dyno runs were with a truck that has stage II injectors already in the truck and changing the fueling curves with larger injectors gives what is perceived as more Hp, the bigger injectors flow more so the more the injection pump is told to increase you will have more fuel flow. To me it's just a marketing tactic. As far as I know there is no difference in the boxes to make one give more Hp than the other, the only difference being timing.

I would be very supprised if a company like Edge would manafacture a private label brand( DD/BD,ect) and allow it to out preform their house brand name product, that would be suicide in the marketing world. Companys regularly make spin offs of their brand name products for compeating vendors and alter them enough to satisfiy the TM laws. Since Edge either did or payed for the RD into the box they wouldnt be just giving it away. IMHO you always get a better product when you buy house brand name. As far as vendor claims I have seen exhaust mfg companys claim by just installing their exhaust "you can gain 45 rwhp"

I agree. Aside from the timing differences, the boxes are almost identical.

Keep in mind that the power a box can add is a function of 1) the pump the truck has (HO vs SO), and 2) the injectors it has presently.

While a Comp or DDUFM may add 120hp to an otherwise stock SO, they only add about 85hp to an otherwise stock HO. Now, go to the other end of the scale with a hugely bombed twins truck and the difference between box on and box off could be well over 200hp.

I think member Battering Ram saw a 200hp difference between box on and off with his truck and his large Don M injectors.

Also if your looking for Hp through out the power band get the Drag comp, it will keep fueling harder after the defuel data at 2700 RPM programmed into the ECM.

If you plan on stacking boxes later or for some reason are concerned about too much timing then the DDUFM should be concidered.

Also beware that adding any fueling box that increases fueling dramaticly could be detramental to the injection pump. Most pumps have no problems, yet a few injection pumps die.

As you can see alot has to do with where one is going with Hp (increase) and what they are going to do with that extra Hp.
