Difference between fuel pressure guages

What are the pros and cons of the mechanical vs. electrical, besides the huge price difference? Having the fuel line running into your cab with the mechanical FP guage probably isn't that great, but is it a concern?

I went mechanical, they say they are a lot more acurate. And most guys on here including me will tell you to not use the isolator.Just run a needle valve so you can shut off the fuel if you do have a leak.I don't have any concerns about having diesel in the cab.If it was gas I would have a problem with it.But most every one on here has it rigged that way,and I have yet to hear of any problems.I think it is the best way to go.Good Luck!

I like the Westach setup, it has been very accurate for my use.

I have run the Westach on my 99, a friends 00, 02, 01 etc.
Good product and it is electrical with a sender.

Ian,

If you elect to run an isolator the cost differene isn't all that much between and electric and a mechanical. The new generation Auto Meter electrics are "stepper motor" operated and are very accurate. A stepper motor is a small electric motor used to operate the needle in the gauge, waaaaaay accurate. The same can't be said for the older Auto Meter mechanical ones.

Here's some other info I posted in another thread about isolators etc:

Now here is some other info most folks don't know about, not trying to slam anyone just placing info here for members to use at their discretion etc.

NONE I repeat NONE of the gauge manufacturers will honor their gauge warranty if they smell any kind of fuel in their fuel pressure gauges. How do I know this you ask, well it cost me 6 fuel pressue gauges when I sent them in under warrannty, that's how!! If an isolator is installed correctly and it's a quality unit it will last and give very accurate readings, our race car has to be at 3.5 PSI, not 3.3 or 3.7 , but 3.5 period and the system is working perfectly. Now this also keeps fuel out of the interior, if it ever leaks you will never get the diesel smell out of the interior etc.
