Diff Temp Gauge question...

Where to mount the sender? Is there reason to monitor both diffs?

Non diff question...where to install oil pressure sender on a 24v?

Thanks

To monitor the diff temp you need to add a port in the cover or get an aftermarket cover that has a port. Never heard of anyone monitoring the front diff.
Best place to tap in for oil pressure is the unused port on top of the oil filter housing.

NOSPIN4ME,

Infidel is right you either have to remove you stock cover and weld a fitting to it or get a cast aluminum cover like our PML covers than has a cast in boss that you can tap for the sending unit. The PML's also get you a coolr running diff and increase the fluid capacity too!

Don't see why you couldn't install one of these $12 Automatic Transmission Pan Drain Kits and use it for a gauge port.

infidel,

Probably might work, but that is designed to be placed on a flat surface. The diff cover for the most part is curved where you need to get a fluid reading, might be a sealing issue??

Could be Mark. I'd have to take a look but seem to recall at least a small spot on the cover that's flat.
Way I look at it if a person is concerned about their diff temp enough to add a gauge they should probably be using aftermarket cover that adds more fluid capacity.

I installed a differential temp gauge in my Mag Hy-Tec cover because I have always wanted to see how the temp varies under different driving conditions. It's been interesting and educational...except for one small point.
The temp probe port is in the roof of the cover...I assume to prevent leaks. It only gets readings through the splash method and only after gear lube has totally warmed up. Puts it in the same category as a tranny pan probe, IMO...somewhat slow to register changes and no readings on short trips. Still glad I have it but if I was installing a port, I would put it submerged, below the fluid level and just be sure to seal it really well.

rjohnson,

Yep you're right about that, FYI the PML covers have a side location for the sender so it gets fluid coverage all the time on the sending unit.

infidel,

Ok check it out and let us know, we have customers occassionally that would use that that aren't interested in a cover and it would be good to know if it will work and clear the gears etc.

I'm like you if you're concerned enough to want to know you might as well get a cover to lower the fluid temp as much as possible etc.
