Diesel Turbo Life Saver for '03
I have been watching the Geno's web site for some time now to see when they would have the DTLS for '03. They had told me it was unknown.

I did a web search for "Brite Box" because they also make the DTSL. I found a listing for the manufacturer and called them and they now have them for sale.

The '03 is not a plug in install like the '02. The manufacturer said is was because they have not been able to get the information needed on '03 connectors yet. They are selling the kit with scotch lock wire connectors.

I bought the kit and looked over the instructions one night and looked at the wiring harness for the wires needed. The next day I made the install in about 30 to 40 minutes. The instructions are very easy to follow but there is a typo in step 6. The Red wire with White Bands from the DTLS does not go to the Pink/Black factory wire as stated. It goes to the position 3 Red/White factory wire. Other than that it was an easy install.

The only real tough decision is in step five. If you want to use their security option where you can switch a toggle to off and make the truck not startable with the ignition you have to completly cut thru one of the factory wires. I chose step 5A which bypasses this requirement and the security option is disabled.

Now when I park my truck I just set the time I want the truck to run for cool down by pushing a button and counting the beeps emmited by the DTLS box and remove the key, lock the doors with the remote and leave. Each beep emmited will idle the truck for one minute with a max of five minutes for the DTLS I choose. The cycle can be disrupted by either stepping on the brake or pushing the DTLS button again.

This is much easier than sitting in the truck waiting for the truck to cool down.

The next add on will be a trans temp gauge.

wondering if you can post the instructions to this install. I want to put a hidden switch in the truck to keep it running with the key out. I don't need or want a timer just on or off. Thanks
Spots,
Yeah I can do that but it's a lot of typing so I'll scan the directions and post jpeg's. Don't think I can do that today so stay tuned.
If I post this info is it like telling a secret? What good will a switch do if everybody knows what wires to look for? I guess a switch will really only keep an honest person honest.

Appreciate you scanning it for us/me. Not really any different than someone buying one and getting the instructions for the wiring colors. I have a kill switch on my truck you would not find if you searched all day. The run switch will be the same. I have done this to all my trucks and not had problems. Always route the wires in the stock harnesses so the modification cannot be seen. Relay wired to the brake to kill the engine if you touch it. But it will only keep and "honest" person from taking your truck. If anyone wants it bad enough they will steal it. We had Lincoln Navigators flat-bedded right off the lot at the Ford dealer. A bit of tranny fluid on the ground and they slip right up. Mustangs with sophisticated alarm systems gone, smash and grab the key lockup cabinet for the new cars.(we had to rekey over 200 cars) Like I said if they want it they will take it. Thanks again

Drafter F.Y.I the turbo diesel life saver is a timer. It does not know what temp the turbo is when it shuts down. You are dealing with guess work. What temp is safe? Is that what you are trying to do shut down at a save temp? Is that the whole idea of the Diesel Turbo Life Saver? What happens with the turbo life saver is you set the timer to shut down in "hopes" that it will reach the right temp. I have found out, that the time could vary as much as 5 min to reach the desired “safe” temp which is 300deg. Your truck could run 4-5 minuets longer than it has to, or if you set the timer to short the turbo will be hot at shutdown. You could cause the oil to burn (coke) is the word for it. I have installed the ISSOPRO which is connected to the pyro when the temp is reached it shuts the motor off. It’s that easy park, set the break, take the key, lock the door, and off you go no waiting. At times my truck shuts down the same time I turn the key off, at other times it could run over five minuets before it shuts off. I tell my wife it has a mind of its own. OF

OverFueled

You are absolutely right in that the DTLS is strictly a timer and does not know what the EGT is. I did look at the ISSOPRO but chose the DTLS. Why??? Because the folks that sell the ISSOPRO would not help me out with how to wire the darn thing. They told me to find someone who knew what wires to tap into. I would never profess to have this knowledge and didn't want to go to the dealer to try and find out. I know another member who is using the DTLS and is very happy with it. I figure that I have a VERY good idea of how much time it takes to get to 300 degrees from various situations and I simply set the timer accordingly. If you choose to wire it in you also get the kill switch with the DTLS.
The manufacturer of the the DTLS has a tech line and a helpfull order desk so they got my money. It's really just a personal choice. If I had talked to you first and you were able to tell me how to wire an '03 I might have went that way.

Drafter, your right P.N.P. is a good thing. I had to ask which wire it was, I needed to cut into, I asked and found out. That is the good thing about this forum anyone, who is a member can ask any question about any subject and get a reasonable (in some case) answer to it.

Also I would not use the kill option as a security device on the turbo temp it is to obvious and easy to steal your truck with it, I went to this web site http://www.bluechipdiesel.com and found the “BEST” little P.N.P. Dodge diesel Immobilizer money can buy CHEEP. Check it out see what you think. OverFueled
