Darn stacks!

Couldn't hurt the ponies, unless you welded them shut Considered straight cuts with flappers, but thought about the tink tink noise would drive me nuts as well.
Once you are stacked, you'll never go back! Love the looks on the cop's faces, I can almost see the hamster running around on the wheel in their heads, trying to decide if they are street legal or not. Honestly have no idea myself, leaning heavily towards NOT, but maybe...............

A friend of mine had a through-the-bed exhaust on his 4-cyl Toyota Tacoma. (off-road mod)
He had the flapper, and though it didn't "tink", it did vibrate and rattle something FIERCE. It was annoying as heck... and was mounted 2/3 of the way back in the bed...
I don't think a Cummins exhaust would vibrate like a 4-popper, but it's food for thought.
I can't have stacks... unless they only stuck 1-2" above the cab... stupid parking garages...

Ya need to find the rain caps that have the rubber piece built in them so they dont "tink". I got on a straight pipe for a tractor and it doesnt burn up like you'd think it would.
As for the stacked 4 cyl, I had one on a nissan pickup and it was the worst thing you could put a stack on. Only thing cool about it was it would shoot a flame out if you wound it out and let off

I saw at www.iowa80.com an "in-stack" rain cap for mitre cut stacks. I don't really know how they are supposed to work, but the idea seems cool. What does everyone do about water accumulation without rain caps? Do y'all really drill small holes in the elbows??

I saw a big rig cruising down the highway that had those hidden "caps" for the miter cut stacks... they looked kinda funky... I'm sure they looked good when the engine wasn't running, but when they were open, they looked wierd. also, they're really pricey!!!
as for water accumulation, you can drill a couple small holes at the lowest points... if you look at stacks on a lot of bigger trucks, they actually have a "low spot" in the elbow with either a hole drilled or a little drain valve. how often the get used if it's a valve I dont' know. I never felt comfy with holes in my exhaust... I figured it'd just coat everything in the vicinity w/ soot! LOL!
Rob Thomas on TDR makes a set of stacks that use a 4" box tube for the crossover pipe. he welds 4" pipe to the box for the stubs and they stick up a few inches... never actually seen a set, just heard him describe them. maybe they stick u 6" to a foot... anyhow, then the 5" stacks are welded/attatched to the box so that any water running down the inside wall of the stacks just runs down and pours out around the box... seems to me that that would get a lot of soot inside the bed.
'course, if no kind of prevention is used and you've got straight stacks, you're gonna have soot EVERYWHERE!! LOL!

Miter Cut Internal Stack Cap
Here it is. I agree with Forrest Nearing looking, and @ $84 a pop not justifyable.

With the engine off, the caps for the miters look ok. Look stupid when running. They work like all the others. They have a band inside that expands with a screw to hold them in place.
I prefer this style myself.

mabe in the future ill get some stacks with the flaps i think the miters look stupid, we have them on the kenworth trucks at work and they get stuck open when the motors off and really look stupid.
