I used to run them on my gassers and their awsome.
They (SFI aproved) are required in the faster classes at the track and if you ever seen the damage a stock damper does when it comes apart, well............
I know if I was going to spin a CTD up to 4k I wouldnt think twice about it but at 3k I dont know if its worth the $$ however I have read posts from some of the gurus that claim some dramatic results?

I have one. Installed it a little over a month ago. The truck feels smoother in gear at idle but the reason I bought it was for safty reasons when turning the engine over 3500rpm. Tim

Between the lower rpm's of a diesel and the fact that an inline six is inherently balanced, I have a hard time justifying this. If our engines were killing main bearings in 100k miles, I'd be more interested. I know that there are always discrepencies in the rotating assembly of any engine, but the 5.9 has no history of balance related failures... What am I missing that has piqued interest in this? Potential longevity? Smoother operation?
Racing is a whole 'nother animal, safety is paramount, rules must be adhered to, but even 4000rpm ain't that high in RELATIVE terms!

My gut reaction is to agree with all you say.... for those of us staying below 4000 rpm. But the 5.9L DOES come with a damper... and many claim the stock damper is inadequate for higher HP engines ???

I have had 2 guys seperate their stock balancers over 4000 rpm. Nothing exploded though. I think the product is nice, but really we dont need them until rpm goes up. Pullers and racers that spin higher.
The DD clutch is heavy, so the added weight of the fluidamper helps with the added weight. The Cummins does not beat the bearings up at all though.
Doug at PDW has a group purchase on them until Jan 31st. Smokin good deals.
