Cut some of the BLACK smoke 2000 RAM
Hi I am new to the forum and would like to just say "HI". Now I also have a question and it may of been covered some where on the forum but I have not seen it yet. Here we go hang in there with me please.
I have a 2000 Ram 24 valve 5.9. Have done a lot of different mod's
** have the 4" exhaust all the way back with chrome tip.
** have a PAC-BRAKE
** lot of CHROME
** 285 hp injectors
** EDGE COMP BOX
** brass elbow in the turbo
** all of the gauges
** many light's ( well I am a OWNER/OPERATOR Big Rig driver)
**and many more goody's inside and out side
** got 92000 miles
** pull 28 up to 30 "pounds of boost
Enough on that get back to the problem
***** Have had a new "lift pump" and also a new " main injector fuel pump"
before I would get some black smoke on take of bu now I really get the B~L~A~C~K smoke. I set the comp box at different setting's have checked all lines but still get to much smoke even just with an empty truck. Other then that it really run's great and moves. So does anyone have any ideas I might try? Since the new pumps I have about 6000 or so miles.
Thank you for any help. Feel free to e-mail me. SAM

You have a 2nd gen and this is the 1st area BUT
I would say the more black smoke is due to the
new lift and injection pumps in conjunction with
the 285's and the Edge. Anyway that's a lot of fuel
your tryin to burn.
IMHO

EGT sensor? Do you mean MAP or IAT sensor?
Is the boost elbow on your turbo an adjustable one? With the fuel you have, you should be able to hit 35 psi easily. This will help cut some of the smoke. If adjustable, crank it in until you get 35 psi. You may also want to check for boost leaks, as the 30 psi sounds a little low to me, assuming your elbow is as tight as it goes (if adjustable). How hard are you driving the truck? You should be able to drive smoke free with what you have. Is your MAP connection from the edge hooked into the sensor? Some guys pull this for more low end/smoke. Short of that, it might be time to look into a bigger turbo.

Welcome to the DTR!!
I think that everyone has overlooked the fact that he has 285hp injectors on a stock Turbo, there's your smoke problem. Bigger turbo is in your future.
Fill in your Location so we know where your are. Then look up your local chapter and join. it's free like this site.

Acetone Not good for your injection system.
Don is testing some Mach 8s for use with nitrous... I am guessing they are RV275s...
Try completely unhooking the Comp, and see if that clears up the smoke, just to remove one variable...

Your injection pump has probably been losing power as it was dieing so now that you've got your power back power you're seeing more smoke.
The first thing I'd do is a BHAF intake- do a search.
Then test for boost leaks especially if the trucks running hot.
Some additives are supposed to help clear smoke too- like Redline which is sold at autozone =P
Now this one is completely out of left feild, but it is the single best mod I've done for spool and clearing smoke. Pop your hood and look at the hole that feeds your air box. Create some sort of air dam just past the hole so all that air is going to shoot staight into the filter. Even with a cardboard test dam I immediately saw a difference in the color and density of my smoke and spool increased by a couple hundred rpm. But I'm all by myself on this idea =P
