Cranky Low Reading EGT gauge?
I've got the Autometer Ultralight series gauges in my truck. They're a little over a year old. What would cause an EGT gauge that's been reading fine to start reading 100 degrees low? Just started reading low out of the blue. How do I know this you may ask? The gauge is only reading < 200 degrees at idle instead of the normal 300-ish degrees. Seems it's measuring ambient air temp correctly though. When I turn the key before starting the truck cold, the gauge seems to be reading pretty close to the current air temp outside. If I go out and drive for a while, the gauge starts to read closer to what it should once the truck returns to idle. I think it's reading close to the high temp readings I used to get if I run the truck hard....that is if I remember correctly. It's kind of hard to judge though. I've spent my life at near sea level and just moved to about 3500 ft elevation a few months ago so I'm really not used to the readings I've been getting lately. I'm beginning to doubt all three of my autometer gauges. I've already replaced one 0-60 lb boost gauge in less than a year and have another on order because the one I have now is crapping out again. Everything is tight. No leaks/shorts. No more/less smoke than usual. Any body have any ideas or are the ultralight gauges as bad as I've been hearing they are?
