CR cam in a p-pumped 24 (would it work right?)

I just pulled a cam out of a truck I've been trying to get to run right for awile. well it has a cr cam in it(i think after compareing it to others patr#'s and such) my question is would it make this truck just not run right? It did not seem to make the power it should, high egt's and smoke. the truck 01 24v wicked twins 181's 913 pump and jammer 3's. Oh I did not build this truck just trying to get it runnin better. The other question everyone usually goes with a stock 24v cam right well would a 12v cam work better or obviously an aftermarket but say we just stick with stock which is better??? thanks for any input...also does anyone know just exactly how to tell a cr cam???

I'd say do a search and find out if the 24v and CR cam have the same profile. If they do, it may be installed a tooth out, or the key way is in a different position throwing the centerline out. The CR runs straight cut gears, so the cam gear might have a different key position relative to the alignment marks when compared to a 12/24v cam gear.

I'm pretty sure the profiles are different between the two(24v and cr) and it had the correct gear and key. I'm just wondering if the cr cam being designed for newer emissions motor would have poor results in a p-pumped motor? I really don't know why anyone would put a cr cam in a p-pumped truck anyway. I did hear that the 03-04 cam are better performers, can anyone confirm? I know my 03 gets better mileage than my 05...

Look at the Colt Cam page posted in your thread on Comp D, CR cams are quite a bit different.

I could see it causing higher EGT's and more smoke. Its designed with an in-cylinder EGR that keeps more exhaust gasses in the cylinder for emissions, this leads to more low boost smoke and higher boosted EGT's. Not to mention the whole profile is retarded and makes for a much slower spool than aftermarket or 2nd gen cams.

For stock cams I think the 24V is best for performance.

the cams are interchangeable but the cr cam is ground for the in cylinder egr. the best thing to do is to trash the cam and get one from don m, colt , pdr or others

this is exactly what i was thinking, in the past i've been able to get most trucks to run pretty good but this one just never acted right...
