my dads truck is getting ready sooner or later to toss the pump. its dead peadling and has the 0216 code. i thought i saw on hear somewhere on hear that you could put a cp3 on a vp truck? is this possible, fisable, and if it is how expensive for the kit or parts needed? truck is an 01 so motor. thanks

you would basically have to swap an entire HPCR engine... the pump will not simply bolt on and work. Completely different method of supplying fuel.

I wouldn't think it would be much different from doing a P-pimp. change out the front gear housing so the CP3 would bolt up. Heads are almost the same, just get that spacer that goes on top of the head for the electrical conectors to the injectors. Get the ECM and new wireing harnesses. I have thought the same thing and don't think it would be too hard. just the electrical side of it.

No , the fuel system is completely different. You would have to swap the pump (if it can be done) complete wiring harness , ECM , injectors (probably the head to make the injectors fit) ETC , it's not nearly as easy as swapping a pump.

The CP3 is made to supply a fuel rail with high pressure fuel , the fuel rail supplies all the injectors with high pressure fuel at all times while the engine is running, and the ECM controls the electrical actuator circuit , which fires each injector individually at precise time.

The VP44 supplies each injector individually with high pressure fuel when it is time to fire each injector , the high fuel pressure actuates the injector , not an electrical circuit.

IF you could make the CP3 go on a VP truck , and somehow make fuel lines to go from the rail to the head , it would pop all 6 injectors open the instant the engine rolled over, and it would hold them open as long as you cranked the starter.

Someone more familiar with the specifics of 2nd gen 24v's and 3rd gens would be able to tell you IF the HPCR injectors will with a VP head, I am not sure how you would run the wiring harness.

fwiw, the head won't fit... oil and coolant passages are different.

the injectors will fit as will the lower part of the valve cover which has the harness in it (2003-2005) It bolts where the 24v valve cover bolts on. The injectors are identical minus the solenoid on top of the CR injectors. Graphitecumnz is right about the passage but it's only one passage. I thought about using a CR headgasket on my Truck since i have extras at work. but that one passage is different so i just used a whole CR long block with a 24V fuel system.

i think you'll have to change the front covers for sure cause the 24 valve uses beveled gears and the cr uses straight gears.

i dont see why you would want to do this. going from pump problems to bad injectors problems. p-pump seems like a better answer

about 2 years ago on TDR a guy put a CR into his 2nd gen truck. he used his truck for hotshotting i think and put a ton of miles on it, so he was looking to ditch the vp44 for something reliable for the LONG haul.
