Couple of ?'s on twins

Hello from the sand box! Few ?'s for ya, have a friend looking into a twin turbo setup for my 99, currently have a sps62/14 and it SUCKS for towing!! Like it to play around with but way to hot when towing, so he has found a kit with an s400, all piping, hoses the works, ? is can i use my stock hx35 for a top turbo? If so what kind of boost will i be pushing? I dyno'd right at 400 last aug. with RV275 injectors, would i need to change them out going to twins? this is a daily driver in MT...-30 to +100 degrees. Any ideas would be great, should be home in sept, so gettin the wish list ready.. Thanks for supporting the troops!! Capn..

Alot of folks are using the 62/14 as the top turbo and a s400 underneath. That's what i plan on doing whenever I can convince the wife! I'm pretty sure that you are going to need bigger sticks than the RV's, I've got stage 5's with my 62/14 it pulls pretty good, but yeah it gets a little toasty.

THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE !!!!! I have twins , towing with 200hp injectors its hot with a 62-65-13 ss - s400 but if you really wont to tow take a s300g 58mm and put a htt ss13 housing on the back at 400hp power you would love it. In twins the small turbo is amped up but i have found that towing with them the smaller top helps big time . the hx35 turbo would be a good top you might wont to try a s-400 with a 1.10 ar ex housing also a wastgate in the ex manifold would be the way to go then jet hot coat the hot pipe and ex housing on the s-400 that would work for 550 hp and be a good towing set up id keep the boost under 60 psi on a this setup dont wont to over speed the top

Ok, I'll be the first to say this.... One of two things are going on here.

1. your definition of way too hot, is not hot at all

or

2. there is CLEARLY SOMETHING WRONG.

Even a stock HX35 can keep the egt's in check with RV275's !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys, internet SUCKS over here so didnt know how much time i'd have before i got booted...anyways with a 27ft 5th wheel, goin up slight grades running 70ish, my temps will be running around 1500 or better, i always have to down shift to 4th and run around red line to keep the boost up to keep the egt around 1300!! Even empty, if its a big hill or in the mtns, it'll run right at the 1250 range, and yes its preturbo temp, seems i have alot more bottom end lag then i did with the stock turbo, but once it spools OMG is it gone, but its hot when it does, i've pegged it a 1600 more than once, not for anytime, but it'll do it. I did talk to II and they said they may have put me into a turbo to big for what i want, may have gone with a ps62, instead of the super?? But i have it now sooo?? Hope this sheds some light on the subject, thanks for info and the help! And for supporting the troops!!

A k31 under an hx35 makes a killer towing set up. I love this setup on my truck. I agree there is something wrong if you are pegging the pyro with only rv 275s. Hope this helps some.

Any turbo will spool SLOWER with another below it.
I just took off a SPS62 for heat while towing issues.
I now have twins--HX35-12wg over a b2. I ported it to match, drilled the center divider to a larger size.
The hottest I've seen is 1200 or so. Smoke is almost gone if driven right. ( I can smoke if I want to .
In my opinion, the SPS turbo is a mismatch on the vp trucks for towing.

There is a big difference towing in the mountains, air density is lower(less air), engine will run higher egt's with same set up as at sea level.

Yes, but still 1500 is HOT for 275s.

I suspect the passenger side CAC boot is chafed through, causing a massive boost leak.

The only time my truck has been as hot as the temps mentioned here was on a load dyno in 5K elevation with 75hp honed injectors (dd2s). That load simulated a pretty stout load comparable to a massive trailer up a steep grade. I hit 1500 on that dyno run, and I could barely kiss 1300 on the street on a sustained WOT run with density altitude over 11K feet.

Russ(capnram) lives at 4000 feet elevation. even my truck with the sps62 got very hot when towing at his place. at lower elevations it was great. there are no boost leaks, and no exhaust leaks.

so the question is, will the stock hx35 work well in a twin setup with the s400 on the bottom?
i am more familiar with 3rd gens, and trying to get russ setup for when he gets home, he's ready to go.

The 35 over S400 is a proven combo. Rip sells all the pieces needed for the setup, except you'll need the turbine housing where the wastegate actuator bolts to it and not the compressor housing.

Hopefully you're getting him set up with studs and o-rings??????

No leaks at all, i'm gettin 45psi boost,, i've had all hoses off and looked at them,, just runs hot all the time..as i said after talking to II a couple of times they admitted it might be to big for what im doing. Whats anyone know about the twins kit from BD, the s300's top and bottom, i've searched and cant find anything, is this a decent set up for what i want to do..i'm not looking for high HP #'s...just good power for towing and playing every now and again, and keeping it cool... what about aftermarket intercoolers and intakes? pros and cons on them..thanks for any info... also look at my dyno #'s for what i have...seem low to me? and what about orings, what psi do i need to worry about doing all that?

your dyno number was with the stock turbo russ.

the kit we are pursuing is one of rips firsts. as far as bd's stuff goes russ, it is gonna cost more $, for less performance.they are a nice, reliable, and proven set, but there is better out there for your money. hang with it. we'll get you covered before you are home.

they get the genset fixed yet?
