I wouldn't say they are a nightmare, but they are more challenging. And you have to have the right tools, like the torsion bar de-loading tool is a must.

Re:Cost of lifting 3/4-1-ton's

I think I spent right around $4,000 to get the look I wanted.

Don't have the exact figures in front of me but,

$1,000 on rims.
$1,000 on tires.
(guessing, and figuring in labor)

$2,000 spent at the lift shop:
4.5 inch skyjacker (to fit the tires and rims)
Bushwacker extend-a-fender's (to cover the tires)
Superlift Truespeed (to make the speedometer accurate)
Installation of all the above.

Driving a truck that looks like it should have from the factory: Priceless. ;D

Re:Cost of lifting 3/4-1-ton's

I'm running the Skyjacker 4.5" on my truck. I paid about $1200 for the lift, and the kit is pretty complete. Didn't have to buy longer brake lines, shims, etc. It also came with shocks. Only problem I've had with the lift itself was having to grind the little nubs on the end of the front driveline yoke (at the U-joint) for clearance and fab a 1/2" spacer for the rear driveline carrier bearing. If I remember correctly, it came with a steering stabilizer as well. Body lifts suck, stay away from them. I tore the bolts out of the cab on my old truck twice. Nothing but problems. In addition, I'm running 37" Swampers with stock gears, and it runs better now than when it had the stock tires on it. Save your money and BOMB the motor. You'll forget all about gears.

Having said that, you will have problems after you lift it. Nothing major. Spend the money now, get a good adjustable track bar. Skyjacker makes one that runs about $200, and I'm happy with it so far. Dowload the alignment specs from Fritz's site and have it aligned to those specs. Keep a sharp eye on your tire pressures. Put one of Darrin's Steering Stabilizers on it, the added strain from the bigger meats will take its toll on the steering box.

I'm not particularly nuts about the shocks, but they'll do until I can afford the coil over set up.

Grand Total, about $1600 plus rims/tires.

Check Four Wheel Parts Wholesalers, they usually have pretty good deals.

That's the info I was looking for. I agree with the gears... I want the larger tires because my gears are too tall. I'm trying to mechanically lower my ratio through tires for better highway driving plus the fun part. Not put 4.88's or something in to bring back my redline @ 55mph problem. lol

Re:Cost of lifting 3/4-1-ton's

My lift (5.5&quot, wheels and tires was less than $3,000.00. That includes shocks, brake lines and alignment. The Dodge lift is fairly easy, and if you have a coil spring compressor you can get it done in a day. My GMC was a different story being an IFS, and more money. E-Mail me if you would like more info on the lift options. LE
