Unhappy coolant hoses

Are the regular run of the mill auto parts stores hoses as good as the OEM or truck store hoses. I hope so , I just got home from my local Dodge dealership mad as a hornet, went to get an elbow coolant hose for the back of the transmission oil cooler, WOW $32 each. No way! By the way there are three of these elbows in the system , there about 5/8" diameter and maybe 2" long. They have got to be cheaper some where

Lets see if I got this stright. You need 3 pieces of hose about 5/8x2 inch long. If so I cant believe the dealer wants 32 dollars a piece. Maybe if you have a tractor supply or local co-op around they can cut you sone pieces of hose, you might have 5 bucks into all 3 pieces there. Good luck!

You are partly correct, but you made me feel kinda stupid! The hoses are not straight they are 90 degree elbows. As in molded

I had to get them too after cutting them off for the Evap core replacement.
Advanced Auto parts had them for about $12 each. They had to search the store because the one bone head couldn't find them and then they magically appeared after looking.

OK guys finally found some at a Napa parts store. $4.59 each a **** sight better than $ 32.50 each at the dealership. Took it to the dealership with reciept to show them they were out of line, huh they just don't care if they screw ya!

I always check out as many options as possible before I ever consider going to a dealer.

The dealer is kind of the last place you go because they are the only place on earth that might have the part.

Well, thats my thought at least.

I get a good discount at the local dealer because I was a mechanic there and know all the parts guys. I still don't go to the dealer unless I have to. It's not all the dealers fault though I got to see the dealer cost of parts when I worked there and I could get the parts from a Cummins dealer for less than the dealer had to pay Dodge.

I have never delt with the elbows on the trans cooler but would it be posible to use a brass elbow then just use straight hose instead of using a molded hose?

I don't think you can adapt brass elbows to the cooler because they are set up for a slip on heater hose with clamps. But I suppose anything is possible!
