Cool-Down Timer

Has anyone tried one of those Cool-Down Timers being advertised on this site? It looks like the hot ticket to me. What does everyone think? I think it's a fair price.
Check it out.http://cool-downtimer.com/

Yeah I checked that out the other day. It looks good to me and the price is right also. I am thinking about getting one.

Re:Cool-Down Timer

Sitting in your truck waiting for it to cool down for a few minutes seems like eternity. Especially when you're in a hurry. >

Re:Cool-Down Timer

Im NOT trying to knock Howard or his product....IMO, I think the engine modules that shut down the truck at a preset temperature (say 300 deg F) are somewhat better than the timers but they tend to cost a lot more as well. I believe Isspro makes one.

I am testing one now for an article and so far it has worked flawlessly! Well built and engineered to last. I am impressed with this product!

Re:Cool-Down Timer

I have to second Lary's comments on Howard's timer. It works as advertised and I spent more time deciding where to stick the box than hooking up wires. It literally plugs into the truck. The production model looks more professional than the prototype on his web site, but the control layout is the same. He makes 'em in gray, so I got that, it matches my dash well - unfortunately I ended up sticking it to my brake controller so black would have looked better. The price is excellent compared to other turbo timers - have you seen the price on the one that Isspro makes?

Re:Cool-Down Timer

but does it work with the factory alarm? in other words, if i use it and shut my truck off, it stays running for a few minutes, but can i lock my door using the key fob remote and just walk away? i want to buy one, but that is my only concern. thanks for any help you can give.

Re:Cool-Down Timer

Isspro Turbo Temp Monitor R4130 (Diesel) - $116.64 shuts down at prest temp.

I prefer the TurboDiesel Lifesaver myself. Yes its more exspensive but its worth every penny I paid. Plugs into the ignition harness, comes with "fuel switch", and can cancel the operation at anytime and turn the key back on. Basically just depends on what you want to spend and what features are important to you.

Re:Cool-Down Timer

Tranny wars, clutch wars, oil wars, and now- timer wars!

At the risk of startin' something, here are my opinions:
Howard's setup plugs into the fusebox and the parking brake switch, if you decide you want to go again, just turn the key back on, pop the parking brake and drive. Only missing features I see are fewer time options, automatic operation, and a $239 price tag. I don't think the Isspro unit includes the egt probe for $116.

Also plug-n-play, fuel switch, looks better, can be mounted out of sight........a few other things you missed.

Correct the Isspro Unit doesn't include a EGT thermocouple, I was just tossing the price in the mix.

As I said before, pick the features you like, and how much your willing to pay and your set.

Re:Cool-Down Timer

I've had my cool down timer from Howard for well over a month, maybe 2, works like a charm every time. For the cost, ease of installation and just plain getting me out of the truck and doing other things while it takes care of my turbo, it's the best money I've spent this year. Now if he could just come up with one that I could put on my wife while the football game is on, with a re-start option at half time for munchies.

Re:Cool-Down Timer

I dont know how good the turbo timers are or how they hook up to the trucks but I can say that I tried the Isspro turbo temp monitor and I hated it. Why? Well there was no installation instuctions per year vehicle and you couldnt get them. When I finnaly found the main ignition wire I got it hooked up . Then after turning off the key a couple of warning dash lights would flash and chime while the truck was still running. To top it off the trucks alarm system couldnt be engaged untill the truck was turned off by the monitor. I looked for weeks for anyone who had installed one and had it working correctly. Turns out one guy did. He came up with a way to add a few parts from Radio Shack that would make the setup work. Well to make the story short I didnt feel like going through all that junk and I was upset that I spent $120 (half the price Isspro wanted) on something that worked like crap. Yea the truck shut down when it got to 300* but I had to site around to alarm it. So I decided that I could wait for the cool down and save myself the money on other goodies.

Re:Cool-Down Timer

Katoom, these timers only have 3 wires to hook up, they come with very good instructions, and if I can hook it up and it works, then any one can. I can machine my pump parts and set clearances to .0015, but me and electrical stuff are like water and oil , I always wind up making some wires melt down and have to start over, but not on this one. You can PM hvanflee or PM Lary Ellis.

Re:Cool-Down Timer

Ok, I'm going to try this thing out, i'll let you know what I think of it. I had the "PRE-LUBBER" and it was a big wast of time, this is alittle more basic. Hopefully it works as addvertised.
