Cooked Adrenaline

Heard of this happening on ADR4000 or maybe Comp/Drag tunes, but.....?
-ADR2000 tune? .....Pwr Level 05?
-90* OAT and been driving for about an hour at 60-70 mph. 3 CTD convoy with some playing hard on the hwy.
-Pulling away from a stop sign on a country road.
-Truck following said I started putting out white smoke haze.
-Truck just died and CEL light came on.
-Opened hood... smoke coming out of Adrenaline
-Strong burnt (electrical) smell.
-Box too hot to hold in my hand.
-Three codes; 0251, 0252, 0253.
-Completely unhooked Adrenaline harness (MAP, Data Port, Battery)... truck ran fine...went on my way!

Anyone else seen this ...on regular tunes??

Contacting Quadzilla first thing Monday.

That is the same tune/setting that I've been running. I hope this doesn't happen to my rig.

Hey rowland you should take a picture and show them what happend. It was kind of weird how it happend. I wonder If that white block was loose and hit that one post or what? Strange hopefully you will be the last or they know a way to prevent it.

Hopefully they will have a fix for it!

The white pieces you said were falling out is the same thing that happend to RowJ There is a white rectangle type thing in there and it had hit one of the "posts" in there ( dont know the terms for all this so describing of how I saw it). Not sure if the little white thing gets loose and hits the post or what but maybe quad will chime in or something.

Will it void warranty if i open mine up to see if that is what happened to mine? I know Quad told some one to open theirs and remove a jumper but i dont want to void my warranty.

RowJ i talked to Justin at Quad. He said send it back but i havent had time to pull the harness out of the truck.

thats the same resistor that toasted when my quadzailla xzillaraider cooked itself. Same sort of deal, my truck wouldn't start so i opened the hood and found the xzillariader harness smoking and melted. Seems like a common problem with all wire tap boxes?

Been there, done that. Twice actually. First one completely cooked itself and was unuseable. Second one melted itself but was and still is drivable.

Apparently that white ceramic heat sink gets REAL hot during cranking, but my first one died while I was driving.

Never figured out why

Give the quad guys a call, they'll take care of it. They took good care of me when it happened.

Looks like a power resistor to me. Those things are rated to dissapate a certain number of watts up to a certain temperature.
For example, one maybe rated to dissapate 10 watts up to temperature X. After temperature X is reached, the power rating decreases linearly. Common values of X are 70* C, 85*C or 125*C. Don't know what the operating temp under the hood of a CTD in Texas in summer is, but I bet it's hot If it wasn't that, something caused a LOT of current to go through that thing The traces on the PWB look fine, just some scorched earth under the part from the heat.
I'm sure Quad will take care of you RJ

thats the price you pay to be on the cutting edge (Ginny pigs for the rest of us). I bet the guys that bought off of Ebay are nervous now. from all I have read Quad is a good company and they stand behind there products.

I'm not at all worried about Quad taking care of my problem. The company has been great throughout the Beta teasting program.
Just posted this thread as a heads up for other Adrenaline owners .... on how to handle this situation...just in case it happens to you.

Thanks 'Hotdram'. Nice to have input from an Electrical Engineer.

Not sure? Adrenaline Beta Tester since Nov, 2007.
Just not positive this box is my original. Has been sent in twice for changes/upgrades and may be different unit??
