Cold air Filter

Looking at a new filter system?? Does a cold air filter system such as AEM, AFE, AirRaid, BD, really help out the performance of a Dodge, Ford, or GMC, Diesel for the price? Looking to use the truck to pull a RV trailer. Would like some feed back??

it will help more on a dodge than it will on a ford or chevy, they already have pretty good intakes, the factory dodge one is pretty restrictive. i would recommend AFE Stage II w/Pro Gaurd 7, everyone is going to call me crazy buy i picked up 2mpg hand calculated when i installed mine, went from getting 225 to 235 on half a tank to 300 to 325 on half a tank. my driving styles havent changed, acutally when i got 300mi on half a tank i was probably averging 85 to 90mph for about 175mi of that trip

Iv had good luck with Amsoil dropin.
Had a Airraid and got rid of it.
Mileage improved slightly and the EGTs were about 50* lower after changing.

I've heard nothing but good reports about the Amsoil Nano airfilter and will install one when I replace mine. From what I've read it works just as well or better then the $300.00 CAI some people buy.

hehe have you looked at a stock '94.5-97 psd intake?? haha my tymar cold air intake on my f350 psd helped a decent amount, my spool up time improved dramaticly and it feels like it has a lot more low-end grunt.. higher rpms feel a little bit torquey-er but not much...

Do you have a part#? I've read where if a dealer see's a CAI, he will void your warranty - that's why I like the drop-in option, at least while I have a warranty.

Thanks...

Amsoil EAA189 should be the one for your truck. You an go to their web site and do a build for all filter numbers just to be sure.

Warrant issues

I was told by my dealer that they will not void my warranty on after market parts as long as it is from turbo out and cat out as far as exhaust and intake and mines been in the shop a few times.

I installed an AEM Brute Force CAI recently and just got back from a trip to New Mexico. I noticed no difference in MPG's but it did seem to have a little more power response, especially pulling long hills. The tranny didn't down shift as much and I love the whine of the turbo.

The Amsoil nano filters are made by Donaldson, the leading maker of filter media. They are cutting edge.

I'd go the drop-in Donaldson/Amsoil route until you've verified that your filter is too restrictive.

Just make sure the seal on the lid is good. Some grease will help to make sure it's nice and sealed.
