Cold Air Box/ Cam Plate?

Well, I just recently got myself a 98 12Valve and the only thing I've done so far is put a set of new tires on it and straight pipe it. It sounds good, although I was thinking about getting a bigger exhaust. So here's the question.

I'm debating on getting a Cold Air Box or the Cam Plate, #10 I guess it is?

What should I go about getting first? Any suggestions?

Gauges should be first, then a plate and GSK. Exhaust and intake should come after that. Stock intake/exhaust will support up to about 350hp.

And you also need to tab the KDP first, it is a dowell pin in the timing case that can back out with disastrous results.

KDP

killer dowel pin, supposed to keep the internals aligned inside the engine, it tends to fall out on some vehicles and cause some massive damage, which is why they suggest to tab it, no clue on why cummins didnt see it as a problem, or dodge for that matter...

The problem would have been observed on the dodge part of it first. The 5.9 goes in all kinds of equipment as well as the 4 banger version. Ive never seen any probs with them. I guess it has to be something with the quick fluctuation in rpm's the we love so much.

Yeah, listen to displacedtexan get guages first. Of course we all like to spend our money on definate power gains which guages dont do, but after you install them, bombs away.

I tend to think that Cummins/Dodge did not do a recall/tsb because it is a fairly rare occurance. It is a major deal when it occurs though. But when you look at it as a percentage of all the engines built verses the ones that had the KDP back out, and fall in the timing gears, it is a very small percentage overall.

They did the same as with the 53 blocks, and revised it. The newer timing cases (all 24v) have a tab covering it from the factory.

Yea I think with all the tranny denial that Dodge has it was probably low on the totem pole!
