you have the 5 speed so part of that price is paying for a 6 speed flywheel.

i just saw this the other day but i am not sure if they screwed up on the website...it's autozone's website claiming a 6 speed flywheel costs $72.99 plus a core (p/n 3434)...http://autozone.com/P,true/shopping/shoppingHome.htm. it might not show a 6 speed flywheel if you look up 1996 model year, but i looked up my model year 2001 and it showed.

the clutch companies are selling the flywheels somewhere in the $250-$300 range from what i could find. if this autozone thing is true, its considerable savings!!! ***provided the quality is the same***

I doubt the quality is the same. It is probally made in china.

From my understanding it isn't a 6 speed flywheel but a 5 speed flywheel that is redrilled to accept all of the other 6 speed components... I might be wrong though... I am using the stock flywheel with my ValAir so its not even their upgrade package and it is holding my power without a sweat. My buddy is going to put the 13" kit in his 24v once his stocker gets burned to pieces lol.

I'm pretty sure it's a 5600 flywheel. That's why the spacer is necessary for the starter. I talked to valair (ken) on the phone too and he said the 5600 flywheel is fully hardened whereas the 4500 flywheel just has the surface hardened and wears easily after it's been cut down. It might be machined to accept a bearing for the 4500's input shaft. Not sure.

I did 525 on it to the ground, probably good for 600+ at the crank and thereabouts to the clutch itself. I have read of guys putting down a lot more than I did on it, but that's on a dyno and it is more likely to hold on the dyno than on the street....with that being said mine has never slipped on the street even at the same box levels that I dynoed the numbers with.

Then that is a good price, for a 5 speed at least.

As for putting twins on with the FE, i'm sure it would be okay if it was a small set of twins. But once again you are really playing with fire shooting for big numbers on a single disk clutch and expecting it to last. It will last if you dyno a few times to get numbers, and get on it every now and then. But once you start hitting the drag strip, trying to speed shift, or especially hook to a sled you are going to drastically shorten it's life. That's why I say just do it right one time, instead of doing it over many times. Think of it this way, if you end up getting a single disk and it begins to slip or you trash it less than a year down the road then what....put the same one in or another brands best single? Then you'll have the same or more money invested in those clutches when you could have had a DD to begin with that will hold up and last.

Also, I would highly advise that you don't sled pull with a single, especailly the FE. As grabby as it is slipping it will heat it up quick trying to get some boost and get that sled moving. You might get one hook and drive home, or you might be calling for a trailer.

Well mine is a 6sd is it still a good price?

Also it is a smaller set of twins I would use my stock turbo as one of the turbo's its not two big turbo's. This is what I plan to do with the truck after the modding stops. Maybe dyno it 2 times a year. Go to the drag strip MAYBE 2 times a year and then the occasional race when someone just wont shut up. Other than that i just love kowing that i have the power there if i need it or want it. Oh yea there will for sure be no sled pulling or anything of that nature with this truck. If it was 4x4 then maybe that would be a different story!

For a 6 speed I would say if you paid 1000 for an FE and installation that it's a good price. My guy charged me 200 (normally 300) to do mine. Took him about 4 hours. Some may charge 400+ for it.

Unless you're helping to muscle the trans I don't see how the swap on these trucks is a two man job.

Yeah, I mean there is a little bit that you can do, like prepare parts for installation, unbolting the shaft at the rear diff. Make sure you mark it first so as to avoid any possible vibration after reinstallation. Other than that it's pretty cramped in that small area underneath and sometimes two can be a crowd.
